History books, the media, the school systems, etc abound in falsehoods and inaccuracies of Confederate and Southern history. This fact sheet will help to clarify and dispel some of these rampant inaccuracies.

MYTH – The War of 1861 – 1865 was fought over slavery.

FACT – Terribly untrue. The North fought the war over money. Plain and simple. When the South started Secession, Lincoln was asked, “Why not let the South go in peace?” To which he replied, “I can’t let them go. Who would pay for the government?” Sensing total financial ruin for the North, Lincoln waged war on the South. The South fought the War to repel Northern aggression and invasion.

MYTH – Only Southerners owned slaves.

FACT – Entirely untrue. Many Northern civilians owned slaves. Prior to, during and even after the War Of Northern Aggression.

Surprisingly, to many history impaired individuals, most Union Generals and staff had slaves to serve them! William T. Sherman had many slaves that served him until well after the war was over and did not free them until late in 1865.

U.S. Grant also had several slaves, who were only freed after the 13th amendment in December of 1865. When asked why he didn’t free his slaves earlier, Grant stated “Good help is so hard to come by these days.”

Contrarily, Confederate General Robert E. Lee freed his slaves (which he never purchased – they were inherited) in 1862!!! Lee freed his slaves several years before the war was over, and considerably earlier than his Northern counterparts. And during the fierce early days of the war when the South was obliterating the Yankee armies!

MYTH – The Confederate Battle Flag was flown on slave ships.

FACT – NONE of the flags of the Confederacy or Southern Nation ever flew over a slave ship. Nor did the South own or operate any slaves ships. The English, the Dutch and the Portuguese brought slaves to this country, not the Southern Nation.

BUT, even more monumental, it is also very important to know and understand that Federal, Yankee, Union ships brought slaves to America! These ships were from the New England states, and their hypocrisy is atrocious.

These Federals were ones that ended up crying the loudest about slavery. But without their ships, many of the slaves would have never arrived here. They made countless fortunes on the delivery of slaves as well as the products made from raw materials such as cotton and tobacco in the South.

This is the problem with Yankee history History is overwhelmingly portrayed incorrectly by most of the Federal & Yankee books and media.

MYTH – The Confederate Battle Flag represented the Southern Nation.

FACT – Not true. While the Southern Battle flag was carried into battle, the Southern Nation had 3 different National flags during the course of the war.

The First National flag was changed due to a resemblance of the US flag.

The Second National flag was subsequently modified due to the similarity to a flag of truce.

The Third National flag was the adopted flag of the Confederacy.

The Confederate Battle Flag was never a National Flag of the Confederacy. It was carried into battle by several armies such as the Army Of Northen Virginia and the Army of Tennessee. Was also used as a Naval Jack by the Confederate Navy.

MYTH – The Confederate Battle Flag is known as the “Stars & Bars”.

FACT – A common misconception. The First National Confederate Flag is correctly known as the “Stars & Bars”. The Confederate Battle Flag is known as the “Southern Cross”.

MYTH – The Confederate Battle Flag represents racism today.

FACT – The Confederate Battle Flag today finds itself in the center of much controversy and hoopla going on in several states. The cry to take this flag down is unjustified. It is very important to keep in mind that the Confederate Battle Flag was simply just that. A battle flag. It was never even a National flag, so how could it have flown over a slave nation or represented slavery or racism? This myth is continued by lack of education and ignorance. Those that vilify the Confederate Battle Flag are very confused about history and have jumped upon a bandwagon with loose wheels.

MYTH – The United States Flag represented freedom.

FACT – No chance. The US flag flew over a slave nation for over 85 years! The North tolerated slavery and acknowledged it as a Division Of Labor. The North made a vast fortune on slavery and it’s commodities. It wasn’t until the South decided to leave the Union that the North objected. The North knew it could not survive without the Southern money. That is the true definition of hypocrisy.

MYTH – Abraham Lincoln was the Great Emancipator.

FACT – While Lincoln has went down in history as the Great Emancipator, many would not care to hear his real thoughts on people of color. Martyred President Abraham Lincoln was fervently making plans to send all freed slaves to the jungles of Central America once the war was over. Knowing that African society would never allow the slaves to return back to Africa, Lincoln also did not want the slaves in the US. He thought the jungles of Central America would be the best solution and conducive to the freed slaves best interest. The only thing that kept this from happening, was his assassination.

MYTH – The South revered slavery.

FACT – A very interesting fact on slavery is that at the time the War of 1861 -1865 officially commenced, the Southern States were actually in the process of freeing all slaves in the South. Russia had freed it’s servants in 1859, and the South took great note of this. Had military intervention not been forced upon the South, a very different America would have been realized then as well as now.

MYTH – The Confederate Army was comprised of rich slave owners.

FACT – Very far from true. The vast majority of soldiers in the Confederate Army were simple men of meager income. Most of which were hard working farmers and common men. Then, as now, very few rich men ever fight a war.

MYTH – Only the North had men of color in their ranks.

FACT – Quite simply a major falsehood of history. Many blacks, both free and of their own will, joined the Confederate Army to fight for their beloved Southern home. Additionally, men of other ethnic extraction fought as well. Oriental, Mexican & Spanish men as well as Native American Indians fought with pride for the South.

Today, many men of color are members in the heritage group SCV – Sons Of Confederate Veterans. These men of color and pride rejoice in their heritage. The continued attacks on the Southern Nation, The Confederacy, and her symbols are a terrible outrage to these fine people. These attacks should be denounced with as much fervor as those who denounce the South.

MYTH – The Confederate Flags are an authorized symbol of Aryan, KKK and hate groups.

FACT – Quite the contrary. These despicable organizations such as the KKK and Aryans have taken a hallowed piece of history, and have plagued good Southern folks and the memories of fine Confederate Soldiers that fought under the flag with their perverse agenda. IN NO WAY does the Confederate Flag represent hate or violence. Heritage groups such as the SCV battle daily the damage done to a proud nation by these hate groups. The SCV denounces all hate groups, and pridefully boast HERITAGE – NOT HATE.

MYTH – The SCV – Sons Of Confederate Veterans are a racist, hate group.

FACT – This is a blatant attack on one of the finest heritage groups ever. The SCV – Sons Of Confederate Veterans are a historical, patriotic and non-political organization comprised of descendants of Confederate Soldiers and sailors dedicated to insuring that a true history of the 1861 -1865 period is preserved and presented to the public. The Confederate Flag

The Confederate Flag, if you like it or not is a part of our history. It may not represent the best of any human race, or be held by some as a contribution to this country's greatness, but it does to many.

Many black men wore the Confederate gray and they understood the War was not a racist War. Do you realize the Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863? On August 14, 1862, less than five months before the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, Abraham Lincoln invited a number of leading blacks men to the White House to give them his words of wisdom and to demonstrate to them why he was attempting to colonize them back in Africa. By the way, Lincoln's Negro policy was to send them all back to Africa. That was his policy. William Seward, William Stanton, all of them wanted the same thing.

Lincoln said in a speech in Charleston, Illinois, 1858.

Lincoln said, “I am not now nor have ever been in favor of bringing about in any way the social or the political equality of a White and Black races. I am not now, nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor of intermarriages with white people”. “There is a physical difference between the white and black races, which will forever forbid the two races from living together on social or political equality. There must be a position of superior and inferior and I am in favor of assigning the superior position to the white man”. Abraham Lincoln.

The Confederate flag has never stood as a racist symbol. If you want racism you can look to Lincoln for that, the Confederate flag is not a flag of slavery. There was not one slave ever brought into this country under the Confederate flag. Every slave that was brought into this country was brought in by Northern ships under the Stars and Stripes. There was not even a slave brought into this country on a Southern vessel! The slaves were brought into this country on Northern vessels under the Stars and Stripes.

Out of the 224 years that slavery was legal in this country; only four of those years did the Confederate Battle Flag fly. And by the way, there were slaves in this country in 1620, if you want to hate a flag the British flag England was responsible for taking five million blacks from Africa and selling them to every country under the sun. If you want to hate a flag, why not hate the Dutch flag or the Portuguese flag, or the Spanish flag? They sold slaves too, and if you want to hate a flag today, how about hating the Muslim flags because even today the Muslims are still involved in slavery! Let’s be honest if you want to believe that the War of 1861 to 1865 was over slavery, you are wrong, slavery was made the issue by the liberal revisionists. Abraham Lincoln proposed a thirteenth amendment in March of 1861, the only proposed constitutional amendment that was signed by a sitting President. It bears Abraham Lincoln's signature. Here was Abraham Lincoln's proposed thirteenth amendment:

No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give Congress the power to abolish or interfere within any state with the domestic institutions thereof, including that a person's held to labor or service by laws of said State.

Lincoln's proposed thirteenth amendment said Congress shall not have the power to interfere with any institutions within any state including those held to labor or service by the laws of that State. In other words, what Abraham Lincoln was saying to the South, if you will accept this proposed thirteenth amendment, you may forever keep slaves.

Beauregard never fired on Fort Sumter until April 9. This was in March of 1861! If the War had been about slavery and if the South wanted just to keep slaves and that was it, why fire a gun? Why fire a shot? Just simply accept his proposed thirteenth amendment and it would all be over.

This resolution was passed unanimously by Congress on July 23, 1861. You may read it for yourself in the Congressional Record. Here is what this resolution says: The War is waged by the government of the United States not in the spirit of conquest or subjugation, nor for the purpose of overthrowing or interfering with the rights or institutions of the states, but to defend and protect the Union. Congress said the War is not about slavery! I will even give you a thirteenth amendment that will allow you to make slavery permanent.

You see what was happening was this: There are a lot of issues and I can't cover them all, but one of the issues was an economic issue. Do you realize the South, before the War, was extremely wealthy? And the South before the War funded probably 75 to 80% of all the taxes. But the North wanted a 40% tariff. The south said no. The most we will ever agree to is a 10% tariff. And what Lincoln and the republicans were doing was this: They were saying we would give you the thirteenth amendment. We will let you keep your slaves if that is what you want. You just let us keep our tariffs. In other words, the North was willing to sell the blacks out for money, for higher taxes! They could care less. Abraham Lincoln said If I could save the Union without freeing any of the slaves I would do it.

Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. And the Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves. No it didn't. The Emancipation Proclamation did not free one slave! Do you know what Abraham Lincoln tried to do with the Emancipation Proclamation? In fact he said so he and so do other men in his Cabinet. They say that the Emancipation Proclamation was a war measure. Lincoln wanted to keep England specifically, and the rest of Europe particularly from joining in with, or recognizing the Confederate states of America.

That was his first goal in the Emancipation Proclamation. His second goal was another war measure in the sense; he was hoping that the blacks in the South would rise up in rebellion against their white masters and the white people. Let me tell you something, just to show you there was no trouble in the South - there was not one rebellion during that war of black folks. Do you realize a thousand torches in a thousand black hands would have emptied the Confederate armies, because the men would have gone home to protect their families? And Lincoln knew that. You see what Lincoln did?

Lincoln freed the slaves in the South where he had absolutely no authority and he refused to release the slaves in the North where he did have authority. Did you know that in the Northern armies even when they were fighting the South there were over 300,000 slaveholders in the Northern armies? Did you know that General Robert E. Lee before the war ever began; when he inherited some slaves he freed them.

General Ulysses S. Grant, who was the main General of the North and after wards became President, even after the war was over, kept his slaves. And he did so with this excuse: good help is hard to find. You see the truth of the matter is this: the Emancipation Proclamation was not only unconstitutional, and everybody recognized it, it cost the Republicans a lot of elections. There were five Northern states that refused after that to elect Republicans to Congress. And moreover, there were a lot of Union soldiers that deserted because of it and refused to fight. Slavery was not the issue. Slavery has never been the issue until recently, until political liberals and the political correct people wanted to make it the issue.

Actually, this is the way it works.

First there is some horrible event such as the shooting in the church that was done by a nut. Since no practical law or event could have stopped the shooting, the liberals need to blame someone so a group or groups get targeted. All "gun owners" or "those who fly the Confederate Battle Flag" or even "white Southerns as racists" are targeted to need some type of punitive action taken immediately.

Some issue that had no relation to the shooting event then get tied to taking action. In this case, Obama used gun control. Others used the flag.

This is the heart of how political correctness works. If you are against anything the liberals want done, you are branded, in this case, a racist.

MYTH – The War of 1861 – 1865 was
fought over slavery.
FACT – Terribly untrue.

"" The Northern and Southern sections of the
United States developed along different lines.
The South remained a predominantly agrarian
economy while the North became more and
more industrialized. Different social cultures
and political beliefs developed. All of this led
to disagreements on issues such as taxes,
tariffs and internal improvements as well as
states rights versus federal rights.
Slavery
The burning issue that led to the disruption of
the union, however, was the debate over the
future of slavery. That dispute led to
secession, and secession brought about a war
in which the Northern and Western states and
territories fought to preserve the Union, and
the South fought to establish Southern
independence as a new confederation of states
under its own constitution.
The agrarian South utilized slaves to tend its
large plantations and perform other duties. On
the eve of the Civil War, some 4 million
Africans and their descendants toiled as slave
laborers in the South. Slavery was interwoven
into the Southern economy even though only a
relatively small portion of the population
actually owned slaves. Slaves could be rented
or traded or sold to pay debts. Ownership of
more than a handful of slaves bestowed
respect and contributed to social position, and
slaves, as the property of individuals and
businesses, represented the largest portion of
the region’s personal and corporate wealth, as
cotton and land prices declined and the price
of slaves soared.
The states of the North, meanwhile, one by one
had gradually abolished slavery. A steady flow
of immigrants, especially from Ireland and
Germany during the potato famine of the
1840s and 1850s, insured the North a ready
pool of laborers, many of whom could be hired
at low wages, diminishing the need to cling to
the institution of slavery.""

"" Q. What caused the Civil War?
While many still debate the ultimate causes
of the Civil War , Pulitzer Prize-winning
author James McPherson writes that, "The
Civil War started because of
uncompromising differences between the
free and slave states over the power of the
national government to prohibit slavery in
the territories that had not yet become
states. ""

"" What caused the American Civil War? It is
amazing that even today, nearly 150 years
after the Civil War started, there is passionate
debate regarding the "cause" of the Civil War.
Consider this:
It is a fact that when the armies for the North
and South were first formed, only a small
minority of the soldiers on either side would
have declared that the reason they joined the
army was to fight either "for" or "against"
slavery.
However, equally true is the statement: "Had
there been no slavery, there would have been
no war. Had there been no moral
condemnation of slavery, there would have
been no war." (This was made by Sydney E.
Ahlstrome, in his monumental study of religion
in America A Religious History of the
American People , Yale University Press,1972,
on p. 649; it was echoed by Maj. General John
B. Gordon, CSA, in his Memoirs, Chapter 1,
first page)""

"" The US Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865
and led to over 618,000 casualties. Its causes
can be traced back to tensions that formed
early in the nation's history. Following are
the top five causes that led to the "War
Between the States."
1. Economic and social differences between
the North and the South.
With Eli Whitney's invention of the cotton gin
in 1793, cotton became very profitable. This
machine was able to reduce the time it took
to separate seeds from the cotton.
However, at the same time the increase in the
number of plantations willing to move from
other crops to cotton meant the greater need
for a large amount of cheap labor, i.e. slaves.
Thus, the southern economy became a one
crop economy, depending on cotton and
therefore on slavery.""

To state that slavery wasnt one of the main factors causing the Civil War is disingenuous at best, and utterly dishonest at worst.
Its ones thing to protect that flag by illiciting history (btw, using that excuse, Great Britians flag should be flying at our nations capitol, right next to the Sars and stripes...ya know, history n all) and proclaiming "heritage".....and its totally another thing to try and omit that those states fighting in the Civil War flying that battle flag were totally in support of slavery.

A very interesting fact on slavery is that at the time the War of 1861 -1865 officially commenced, the Southern States were actually in the process of freeing all slaves in the South. Russia had freed it’s servants in 1859, and the South took great note of this. Had military intervention not been forced upon the South, a very different America would have been realized then as well as now.

..that ones funny

little known fact,, RIGHT before the world went to war with Hitler,, he was in the process of ending his policies on gassing jewish folks
