Based on the success of the event I put together I had an idea and wanted to see what you guys think. This event was put together in less then a month and we raised a great deal of money.

I was thinking of maybe doing another event but doing it in August around the time the Deputy was killed and making it a Remembrance\fundraising event.

I think with 8 months of planning I could put together an amazing event and I have a few awesome people who want to help. The lead singer of a major band Lavish Green is a friend of mine and he said he can get a stage, lighting, audio equipment etc donated. He also said he can get other major acts like Fishbone. He also can get free advertising on the major radio stations on the three months leading up to the event. He also knows someone who is involved with the X Games (I think that's what it's called) and could get Motocross and other stunt demonstrations for the event.

Also I got a probably from Hollywood actor Gary Sinise's personal Assistant for him and his band the Lt. Dan Band to appear at the event! I also reached out to Joe Mantegna and got a I maybe depending on his schedule. After the video he sent for the last event I think it would be amazing to have him.

Any idea's for other celebrities who would possibly be interested in attending and how to contact them? I was also thinking I could do it the week of the Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament in Lake Tahoe (only about 15 minutes away from where the event will be) since we will have 50-100 celebrities in attendance maybe one or two could come down for the day..........

I think we also need to have a catchy title, and I have been thinking for a week and cant come up with one. Also I think the paying to have someone jailed and bailed out would be a good attraction, face painting, silent auction, raffle, karaoke, food, drinks and T-Shirts. Also a website with up to date information, videos pictures of the auction and raffle items and maybe a way to donate online? I know one of the guys I work with suggested a bake sale, but I don't know if that would fit in at this event and would actually make money. Does anyone here have any ideas?

Also thinking about setting up a 501(c)(3) but know nothing about it. I tried reading up on it and it is confusing. Does anyone here have any experience with a 501c3? How hard is it to set up? Is it expensive?

I didn't look through the entire thread to see if this was already mentioned, but have you made any contact with the organization Concerns of Police Survivors? I don't know if every state has a chapter, but some states (CA, FL, NY) have regional chapters, and the six New England states are in one chapter.

Nope, I have never heard of them. Thanks for the information, I will check it out.

I have reached out to Move America Forward and they have offered to help get the word out and possibly more. They are probably one of the biggest and the best pro troop organization's in the country. Deputy Howell was a United States Marine so I am reaching out to all the veterans groups I can find.

Any other ideas anyone?

So, I have now decided to put together a massive fundraiser for his children on the second anniversary of his death! I filed the paperwork with the Nevada Secretary of State and the IRS as a Non Profit Org. and now I have my own Non Profit called The Last Response Memorial Fund.

So we are going to do a Music Festival and Fundraiser in memory of him this August. So far I have 7 bands confirmed, a few athletes like Leon Spinks and a couple of Hollywood actors like my good friend Patrick Kilpatrick. This is going to be amazing and a lot of it came from ideas you guys gave me, so thank you!

There will be music, a motorcycle show and shine, food, drinks, face painting, jail and bail. Were going to have the Fire Department bring their safety house and were getting all of the local law enforcement agencies to bring out their DARE race cars and going to do Finger Printing and Pictures for kids for child safety reasons.

Anyone else have any ideas? Can anyone think of any other musicians, actors or athletes who would participate in something like this? Any help would be great. I have been working on this for months. The venue I have is a huge outdoor arena with a mega covered stage like you would see at a Kid Rock or Garth Brooks Concert.

I also have a website up, check it out and let me know what you think please. It is not complete and still under construction. it is rememberdeputyhowell.com

So, I took a lot of your advice over the past year and this thing has really blown up. I have reached out to major entertainers and actors and it's encouraging what is happening. Gary Sinise, Joe Mantegna and Patrick Kilpatrick have been on board in one way or another since day one.

Now in the past month we have finished booking our major line up for the concert including Grammy Nominated Ty Herndon, Grammy Nominated group The Rednex and international Reggae star President Brown. I also have about 10 or so local bands and a very funny comedian named Tom Daw coming up from Las Vegas.

This originally was planned to be a small event but with your guys insight and help this thing has blown up and we are estimating a turnout of 10,000 people and it went from a fundraiser to a Memorial Music Festival and fundraiser on the second anniversary of his death.
