Exactly how many cultural/racial/religious conflicts are going on in the USA today?
Coming from peaceful New Zealand I detect thus far... Black/white Christian/Muslim Anybody not Muslim/Muslim Anti Semitism Anti Chinese Have I forgot any? There must be the gangs, the Mexican illegal immigrants too. How is America to deal with all this conflict? Are there any answers? Do we need another Martin Luther King or many variants of him at this time for this building unrest? What do you personally suggest that is a positive step forward. Is unity ever going to be possible? |

Interesting question! I've often wondered the same thing.
Especially the gang stuff that's going on there. And as far as I can work out, the black & white situation in the US is unique in the world. I don't think there is any other country where both black & white are not native to the country. In every other country either black or white is. I think the rest can be found in any western country (religious, racial conflicts, immigrants etc) . . |

our country is kind of unique I suppose and at times difficult to understand
on one hand we have freedom of religion but on other hand we have freedom of speech what this means is all races, cultures have the same rights as a US citizen we are indeed the melting pot the only Natives to this country being the Native Americans all of us have ancestors that originated somewhere else mine are from England and Ireland however, because we have the freedom to voice whatever opinion we want we also have our share of bigots, stereotyping, slander and hatred I would like to say that gangs are only found in big cities like New York or Las Angeles but that is not true anymore we have them in Detroit gangs are sometimes based on race and there may be one that is mostly African American and another one that is Mexican and another that is Neo Nazis but I live in a part of state where you do not usually hear about this going on |

The state of conflict is ingrained witin our human nature. Scientists and philosophers alike try to dissect the origin of conflict, but to no avail. There are innumerous competing theories and factors involved. The only solution would be to simply wipe the slate clean and begin again as simple nomadic foragers, hoping for a different outcome; although, it may very well be inevitable.
Simply put, humankind is incapable of just getting along with each other. We are left no realistic solution at this point, only war; proved time after time. We have taken the wrong path and lost our way back. |

Yes there is A solution....simple but hard for US to implement. Just stop encouraging other nation's conflicts & leave the desire to be super power. Let the peace (Not US) rule the whole world & mankind........the peace will flow from those countries & communities to you slowly & silently. |

Is unity ever going to be possible? its usual human stuff, really we all have to evolve to a place where 'different' doesnt have to mean 'less than' where we can be different nationalities, sexes, races, etc,, but primarily be human (as opposed to being 'just' human) moving toward the goldenrule of treating others as we wish to be treated and loving our neighbor as ourself but its very contrary to a culture that promotes individuilist egoism I fear we are moving more towards a movement of discarding any aknowledgement of differences so everyone can appear to be 'same' and 'just human' |

You've forgotten conservative vs. "liberal," republican vs. democrat, "teaparty" vs republicans sometimes vs. democrats sometimes. Political conflicts, anti obama and government, anti police movements. There's also Luddites vs. technophiles, apple fanboys vs. android, antimormonism. Secessionists vs. patriotism. Constitutionalists vs. constitution as a living and malleable document on an etch a sketch. Fat vs. skinny, women vs. men. Legals vs. illegals vs. natural born citizens. Main st. vs. wall street. environmentalism vs corporatism. corporations vs. community (e.g. wal-mart business practices) Pro live vs. pro choice. Isolationism vs. protectionism vs. globalism. There are just tons and tons and tons and tons if you're going to include "cultural" to racial and religious. How is America to deal with all this conflict? Generally poorly and slowly, with war and technology being the biggest proponents of actual change. Are there any answers? People figure out practical solutions for their sphere of influence. Otherwise they start fighting or run away to somewhere safer. Fight, flight, or ignore until it becomes a problem where fight or flight are necessary. That's pretty much how everything is answered. Do we need another Martin Luther King or many variants of him at this time for this building unrest? Thanks to the power of hindsight and current problems I think the only thing he really achieved was giving a nice speech. Ultimately, he didn't really accomplish all that much. The threat of violence and application of force did more than he did. What do you personally suggest that is a positive step forward. No real such thing as a step forward. Just keeping on stepping. Progress is a myth. Change is a constant. There is no Xanadu or paradise. At best one group can acquire a bunch of resources to create an oasis for themselves for a time, with said resources dwindling as they try to control change until it just can't be controlled. Is unity ever going to be possible? Peace, probably. Mutually assured destruction kept it for a little while among certain countries. Unity, never. |

New Zealand is not so pristine ..just come into ED on a Saturday night .. You will see it all . We have racial cultural and domestic violence .. Poor socioeconomic groups and inequality . Sure not to the scale of the usa but we are a much smaller , younger country .. It is all relative . We may way the banner of peace and conservation but we have many skeletons in our closet  You are right. No country is sinshine and lollipops. I think most know about the US because of damn Hollywood |
