The capital punishment in Singapore is Death by Hanging. Singapore has had capital punishment since it was a British colony and become Independent.

I've gone back and forth with this, depending on what aspect of it I wqas looking at.

Mostly, I try to apply the same rules of dry logic to it as I do with everything. That's not simple though.

Take for example, the way that some people say that as long as we're sure we have the guilty party, it's a good thing to do.

Looking at that dispassionately and logically, it's not simple, because a lot of the time, we really don't have as much certainty as we would like to. And getting that certainty, is tremendously expensive, both in money, and in time spent which could have gone to dealing with other crimes. To answer that concern, we've had to set up a very expensive appeals process. So expensive, that in many cases, it's actually cheaper to keep the bad guy in jail for the rest of his life, than it is to arrange the execution.

Then there's the fundamental nature of our legal system itself. For our own protection from the corrupt, we have rule of law. That means, among other things, that there's no such thing as doing things one way for one suspected criminal, and doing them another way for someone else, no matter how sure we are about what happened. This again, makes real costs go up.

It is also a fundamental part of our legal system, that justice doesn't happen, if what is done is driven by how upset we are. The way I talk about myself with this facet of it all, is that as a human being, if confronted by certain kinds of bad people, I will try to kill them outright myself. However, as a citizen, I strongly oppose having emotions decide the law, because that's what protects ME from an angry neighbor or a passerby being able to attack me with impunity, just because a lot of people are mad.

Taking all that and more into account, my current stance is, that I am willing to pay the taxes required to permanently incarcerate those who are "unsafe at any speed" to have on the streets. This will protect me from having an innocent person die, while still seeing to the maximum safety of my society.

Bottom line for me, is that I don't oppose the death penalty because I give even the tiniest concern for the criminals. I am entirely cold hearted about them. Keep the worst ones in an otherwise empty box forever. I oppose it (for now) because I think the best use of our societies resources, is to have REAL life sentences when needed.

I oppose the death penalty, because it removes from the possibility of reexamination the most important evidence in any case: the putative perpetrator themself. But only if a life sentence really is a life sentence, no parole, no time off for good behavior, no conjugal visits or similarly comforting privileges.

The death penalty can never come back on the basis of an innocent been found guilty, however those who have been found guilty and admit their guilt like the Yorkshire Ripper should be offered the option of death this will save the person a life time incarcerated also save the country a fortune keeping them

In the 21st chapter of the Old Testament book of Exodus, God tells the government of the new nation of Israel to use capital punishment as punishment for 1st-degree murder.

Granted, the Old Testament required capital punishment for other deeds.

My point is that I cannot argue that capital punishment is sinful if I believe in the God of the Old Testament.

I believe it is sinful ,and I believe the God of the old testament was giving exceptional rules for an exceptional 'chosen',,and once Jesus came to die for our sins,, there was no more chosen,,,and Jesus gave the rules to all people,, including forgiveness, but not the death penalty

it is not such a clear answer biblically, so I err on the side of the example of Jesus,, who instructed to love, which killing does not fall into,, in my opinion

I can't help but think about all the little babies who have been and are being aborted. They received the death penalty without even given a chance to defend themselves sad2
