Gods gift to Martial arts man. I practice Martial arts myself and you can learn alot by watching Bruce get into his 'mode'. Wicked indeed. Best thing is, He knew his junk and could fight for real too, which makes ot that much better.

Bruce Lee was the s*it. I read that sometimes his moves were so fast to be captured they had to film at 32fps to put him in slow motion.

I found a download that contained all of the 26 Green Hornet episodes... I had never seen them before... some of it was hilarious... and some of it was truly inventive for the period... I loved how the Black Beauty car was hidden in the garage, suspended by hooks front & back... they hit a button in the wall, and the turntable turned... rotating the daily driver car underneath, and Black Beauty on top...

I love the martial arts. I have studied Shaolin Kung Fu on and off for ... jeez (looks at calendar) ... nearly 20 years now...

I think one of my first influences toward martial arts was the original Kung Fu TV show, starring David Carradine... in the movie "The Dragon" (a sort of biography of Bruce Lee's life) they touched on the fact that Bruce was actually to be in that role... instead of Carradine...

I think the Kung Fu show was cool as heck... all the "flashbacks" to when Caine was in China... I have the entire first 2 seasons of the original TV show on DVD...

Jet Li has definitely done a lot for martial arts and Kung Fu... if you ever get the chance, check out the series "Once Upon A Time In China"

There are actually 6 movie sequels to this title... Jet Li plays a Chinese folk hero by the name of "Wong Fei Hung"

All of the title are listed in this IMDb search:

http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=Once+Upon+a+Time+in+China&x=20&y=7

Depending on what version you get, some of them are in Chinese only, some are in Chinese with English subtitles, but there is a set available over-dubbed completely in English. The original was filmed in Chinese, but the English dub version is pretty good. The acting is all the same, and the martial arts and photography are a must-see for any martial arts fan.

There might be one of these movies in the series that doesn't have Jet Li... (#5?) but he is the main star in the rest of them.

In the Chinese versions, "Wong Fei Hung" will be in the title...

I have to mention another one of my favorite martial art actors... his name is Yun-Fat Chow... I have seen him in several movies, but you might have known him best in the movie (Chinese title) "Wo hu cang long"... which when translated (not sure it was an exact translation...) into English became a more familiar title, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"...

You might have seen him as Captain Sao Feng in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End...

He is no newcomer to martial arts flicks... the IMDb has him listed making movies as far back as 1976:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000334/

And since I'm just "into" martial arts...

Did you know that there is a Shaolin Temple inside the United States? It is in New York.

Make time to read the small blurb about Shifu Shi Yan-Ming, the founder of the Shaolin Temple in the USA:

Bruce Lee was one of the most important men of our time pertaining to bringing the martial arts and true Asian martial arts training to this country. In the movie "Dragon" they touch on the idea that the Chinese secret societies didn't want him to teach Caucasians about the martial arts...

There is a bit of conspiracy theory involved (and I don't remember all the details, etc...) But it has been said that his death was connected to this secret society of folks who did not want him to teach martial arts in this country... Maybe someone else more knowledgable on the story could expound on this... It was thought that his brain anuerism was actually caused by a form of Dim Mak (also known as the Death Touch, is an attack on pressure points and meridians in some styles of Chinese martial arts used which is said to incapacitate or sometimes cause a delayed or even sudden death to an opponent.)

This issue surfaced again when his son Brandon Lee was killed during the filming of "The Crow"... some folks believed the Chinese secret society killed both Bruce and his son... at least that is the conspiracy theory...

All I know is that Bruce was one toned dude... and lived to do martial arts everyday. Many folks attempts at accomplishing martial arts goals pale in comparison.

I would love to see someone with Bruce's level of skill step into the Octagon against some of these UFC mixed martial arts whimps... haha... or... to have one of the monks from the Shaolin Temple come down and give a demonstration of true martial arts in the same. You see folks who claim to know Shaolin step in and get annihilated... they are not really Saholin... they are a watered down version of the real deal. But this is a controversial topic, and I'll rest my peach box podium on that for now...

I suppose my only comment on all that would be that now the UFC has rules... in a true fight for your life, there is no rules, and there really is no way to practice a death blow in any martial arts school... so the world may never know...

I am not a fighter, I think the most important thing I ever learned from martial arts was how to walk away from fights or situations where brawling would take place. These are mostly all instances where men (and sometimes women) want to compete in a "my dog is bigger than your dog" exhibit...

If someone threatened my life... that is when they would have a very bad day.

The more important things in life are those things that cause you to prosper. Do you take care of your children? If not, your Kung Fu is no good. Do you respect your parents? If not, your Kung Fu is no good.

If you are the best fighter in the Kwoon (the traditional Chinese martial arts training hall) this does not mean you have the best Kung Fu. Kung Fu "alludes to any individual accomplishment or cultivated skill."

Also, there is much more to studying martial arts than just the external punches and kicks of Kung Fu. I have also studied Tai Chi, which is an internal style of martial arts. In our school, we also studied Baguazhang (another internal style) and Hsing-I (yet one more internal style)... The martial arts can be as creative and infinitely challenging as a high form of music such as jazz music (which I also play on the guitar)... always a new challenge, always a new dimension to investigate... I recommend that everyone try it out at least once in their lifetime. It is great for self-esteem...

Cool thread... thanks for honoring Bruce...
