All the time and when people bristle at my comments at the very least it shows me what kind of person I'm dealing with

I do it a lot. Sometimes chats get a bit intense and I throw in a comment to lighten the mood. If they are on my wavelength they will give as much back and laugh. If they don't I get an idea they are not right for me and my sense of humour

Nope, but i have been described as quite flippant to the whole issue of being flippant. As a matter of fact im flippanting off, right know. ;^)
