It's almost always a scam if they want any information or want to take you off site. Even if they have a photo it is likely to have been stolen from someplace else on internet.

I think you need to get to know them first before that

It took me a very long time to get to the point where I would upload a profile picture so I know what that's like. Perhaps some of these people are shy, or just plain lazy, sometimes it implies you have something to hide. Any way it does carry some risk to your reputation to put your face out there. But then I thought other people are taking that risk, I may as well be equal in risk when I post or respond.

Risk to your reputation? What does that mean? Are you saying there is a stigma attached to trying to find someone via the internet?

I think it means if one's picture is found in a dating site by a spouse or a gf/bf or a significant other or a neighbour or a neighbor's neighbour, well then that might be a problem. One might be called a cheater, and once a cheater, always a cheater... so there goes one's reputation.

It could be they are just checking out the site. Different reasons for different people.

As far as giving out your info, it's a bad idea until you have gotten to known them here for a time (picture or not)

It is scary out there that's why you have to always have your guards up.
No picture, no profile and wants to get you out of the site by giving you
their email or text addy means, when you use that email or text addy they could get
your personal info.

If they don't want to exchange emails here on this site, then they don't want to exchange emails is the way I see it, and those with a hidden agenda usually disappear once you say you only want to use the site email to begin with.

Happy Sunday Everyone,

I think people forget why they are on a dating site. There are as many 'reasons' as there are people but in essence it is to find someone special that might think you are their someone special.

People are inherently afraid. People live in a real world and are pressed for time sometimes. Sometimes, Like in my case at present time, they are waiting to see how the online site mindset is before they fill out their profile. In all cases, people are different and do or don't do for as many reasons.

I've been online long enough to understand that I should put a current picture of myself on an online dating profile. I can and have included pictures of myself from the past, not to show how hot I was but to show my perspective interests my appearance progression thru time. If you look at my picture here in my profile and then meet me in a Walmart or something, I look the same. Why should I lie?

The written profile is important too. In the past I have written too much. Not to overwhelm but because there are lots of great things about me. I am a good man. I do have a great many interests and activities. It just seems that the more I write the less they want? I write honest stuff without pomp and circumstance.

If you are on a dating site trying to find someone special, lying in your profile or posting an inaccurate picture leads to a relationship based on a lie. I don't want that (been there / done that for 25 years). My problem is I don't know how much to write. So I am holding off on writing it till I figure out. Too much is not working and too little is unfair to me and to her.

As for taking a conversation off-site that is a must for a relationship to truly begin. You don't immediately offer to go off-site till you discuss the basic interests and see if you BOTH have things in common. If you want a heart relationship going to messenger or personal email is the next logical step.

A few years ago I dated a woman I met online. We met and moved in together. Two weeks together and one night during intimacy she tells me she loves me. She loves me? After only two weeks? That was a relationship killer for me. How could she love me without even knowing me enough? Come to find out she did love me in a way but not the love I was looking for. We stayed together for a year. Great sex but so very empty. Saying and showing love is two very different things. Loving sex but hating my family and my tastes is not love.

As for reputation, If you are afraid for your reputation you may want to look at that?

As for safety, You don't give out your personal information on a dating site...DUH. You take it to a face to face meet in a safe public place and exchange that info. By that time you should be familiar enough with that person to trust them with it.
If you are worried about being hacked? To a hacker that wants to, they already know your IP address by you just visiting this site. They already have your phone information. I just wonder why so many people are deluded into thinking that they are so special that a hacker would even want your info. Some people have a lot to protect. But if you have resources needing protected why are you needing a FREE dating site in the first place? Data mining happens everywhere. If you think nobody has your information already you are deluded. Why let those fears get in the way of you finding someone?

Our world is full of delusions and lies. Instant gratification and narcissism rule society. Low self-esteem sometimes keeps people from filling out their profiles too. Do they write what they think someone will want to read or do they write truths about themselves so their perspective interests will actually know them? Do you know yourself? I do. If you don't know what you want how can you find someone to fill that need?

Your Profile.

Seeing the risk here, I shall no more give out my social security number, credit card info, and income tax return copies, no matter how alluring their pictures are. Kept wondering why my bank account was cleaned out several times. happy
