I remember when i was in 6th grade and we first started using computers. You would type a word and slowly watch it appear letter by long pause by next letter by next long pause.
I wondered what was the point if i would be there all day trying to get one sentence done.

I remember a dial-up connection at 14,600 kbs. Using AOL to connect.
Downloading a huge 100 mb game demo for hours just to have it fail in the last 3 seconds.

They came out with this new game called Pong.
Had to take the back off the TV to connect it.
It also had a game called hockey.

This guy down the road a bit had a computer in his house. It took up the whole room. It was really hot in there and us kids were not allowed in there. I remember wanting to ask the computer if I would ever grow muscles?

I installed mobile phones in cars for a company I worked for. The base unit took up the whole trunk on some cars and had to be isolated because of the heat.

I did data entry for 3 fleets from written files. The first fleet was the equipment on base and that was in 1986-87. So technically, I have been working with computers since 1986.

I remember when windows first came out. It was stupid.

The Sun 2000 series diagnostic center was cutting edge in 1981. It was a huge panel on a roll cart with meters and dials and an occiliscope. The dash board in todays cars is more precise and reads more data with a chip the size of a thumb drive.

I remember when I used to have to spend a few minutes establishing a slow noisy dial-up connection to send and retrieve Juno emails, thenclosing the connection after the process was complete.

I set up the first computer network for Ma Bell
on the west coast..guess what we used (as the
personal computer was not born yet?)

We used the teletype to exchange data between loactions.
We leased computer time from a mainframe computer
located offsite..as did everyone before the PC came
to the market.

You newbs ;-)
