Ok. I am noticing that the profiles I read of men in the military branches are usually men that are no taller than 5'8"

is there a maximum height for enlistment now, or is that just some strange coincidence?

Could be the majority of "military" profiles you are seeing are spammers.

It's a common tactic on dating sites.

If they're spammers, the height could be their actual height, or just a random height choice using the global average. I think the global average height for men is close to 5'8".

I think the average height of men in the u.s. is around 5'10".

Other than that, based on the number of profiles I've seen of women that state something like "no one under 6'! I'm not giving up my heels! I like my men to be taller than me!" maybe the military men over 5'8 already have a wife or girlfriend, taking away the incentive of creating a profile in the first place.

If you're reading the information from some kind of comprehensive military enlistment list, that details every active member, detailing height, then there could be all sorts of explanations.
I find "coincidence" to be a term for "I don't really want to, or can't, put too much thought into cause and effect, reasons."

I thought I heard many years ago that the height for a man going into the military is 5'7 or 5'8? That's the minimum. Of course, I could be wrong. You have to pass the physical and go through basic training.

Hi msharmony, this is what I found online just now:

Height

The military only accepts candidates who fall into a specific height range. This is primarily because the military doesn't have the time or money to order custom-made uniforms and equipment for those who fall outside of the standard ranges.

Also shipboard, tanks, and airplane jobs can be particularly difficult if someone exceeds the height standards.

The cause for rejection for Armed Forces male applicants is height less than 60 inches or more than 80 inches. The cause for rejection for Armed Forces female applicants is height less than 58 inches or more than 80 inches. The Marines are more restrictive. For the Marines, height standards for male applicants range from 58 to 78 inches. Height standards for female applicants range from 58 to 72 inches.

Actually what you are noticing is most likely fake profiles they seem to all put the same height on them. Big red flag...

All I could find on the height was minimum 58" as well.

But my ex daughter in-laws mom is barely 5' she was in the Air Force once she got out there she went and was a Coast Guard till she retired from there about 2-3 years ago. And now works as a Prison Guard part time. She is shorter them me and little..

But then sure they have changed the height a few times since the late 70's.

I know in 1977 I went and took the test to register to join the Navy and I'm only 5'1" and my height back then was not a issue..
