ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Voters didn't mind that Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards was running a bit late Sunday - it gave them time to scrutinize the 77-page policy booklet printed by his campaign.

Though many attendees at the town hall meeting came prepared with questions, others told the former North Carolina senator they were inspired by reading the booklet he has been distributing to voters in New Hampshire and Iowa.

In it, he outlines his vision in four areas: standing up for working families, ending the war in Iraq, building a better future for children and ensuring opportunity for all. But one voter suggested a fifth category: balancing the federal budget.

You deserve real substance, not mere rhetoric. By describing my
detailed plans, I hope this book will allow you to make an
informed decision. It includes my proposals to:

􀂃 End the War in Iraq: We should immediately withdraw 40,000
to 50,000 combat troops and bring home the rest within nine to
ten months. We also need a “diplomatic surge” to engage all
nations in the region in reaching a political solution in Iraq.

􀂃 Guarantee Universal Health Care: This is a moral issue. I will
stand up to the big drug and insurance companies and
guarantee health care for every American, while cutting costs
and improving care. My plan costs $90 billion to $120 billion.
To pay for it, I will repeal the Bush tax cuts for families above $200,000 a year to pay for it.

􀂃 Support Middle‐Class Families: I will raise the minimum
wage, strengthen workers’ rights to organize and reject bad
trade deals. I will help families save, cut taxes for middle‐class families, protect pensions and lift millions out of poverty.

􀂃 Teach Our Children: We must end No Child Left Behind’s
punitive approach and restore a comprehensive curriculum. I
support universal early childhood education, smaller classes
and better teacher pay. My College for Everyone plan will
make college affordable for every student willing to work
part‐time.

􀂃 Achieve Energy Independence and Fight Global Warming: The
crisis of global warming demands action today. I will cap and
reduce greenhouse gases by 80 percent by 2050, as scientists
say is necessary, and invest in innovation and renewable
energy to create new jobs that cannot be sent overseas.

􀂃 Revitalize Rural America: My Rural Recovery Act will invest
in local Main Street businesses, attract new industries like
renewable energy and strengthen rural schools. I will stand
up for family farms with country‐of‐origin labeling, antitrust
enforcement, a ban on packer ownership and a moratorium on
building or expanding concentrated animal feeding
operations.

I hope you will read my plan. You might not agree with every
detail, but you deserve to know where I stand. When you’re
done, I want to hear your ideas, suggestions, and thoughts.

Please call me at (919) 636‐3131 or email me at info@johnedwards.com.
Together, we can – and will – redeem our country’s promise and
our children’s future.
Yours sincerely,
John Edwards

Wow what a novel socialistic idea. Tax the rich to fund more government run entitlement programs. If you want a medical plan this is really screwed up let the government run it. Take a look at FEMA, the Post Office, or Medicare and see how efficiently the government runs anything.

The Richest 1% of the population of the U.S. pay 37% of the total income tax paid. The Richest 5% of the U.S. pay a total of 52% of the total income tax paid. The lower 50% of the income tax bracket pay 3% of the total income tax paid. How about a flat tax 10% 20% or whatever, no deductions, no exemptions no nothing. I know that there are those who say that is unfair to the poor, but they will be getting back more than they pay in entitlement programs.

If you really want to save some tax money, do away with the zero based budgeting system used by the government now. Then start rewarding and promoting managers of government agencies for saving money instead of on the number of people they supervise. If we cut half the waste in federal spending there would be more than enough money to pay for more programs without raising taxes for anyone.

Just found a website that documents, in summary, what each candidate stands for and what they voted for.

This is the John Edwards stance on immigration ... interesting

# Undocumented workers deserve same rights as American workers. (Sep 2007)
# Enforce borders & employers, and allow earning citizenship. (Sep 2007)
# Roadmap to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. (Jan 2004)
# Differentiate terrorists from the immigrants. (Jan 2004)
# Welcome immigrants with earned legalization program. (Jan 2004)
# Hard working immigrants earn right to citizenship. (Sep 2003)

Immigration is a non-issue now!

The States are handleing their own!
I guess since this is an internal American issue, and youve never even been to this great country, you wouldnt know anything about it!

Best you check Britains immigration policies and stick to that!

This country is a little bit too complex for your understanding!

JOHN EDWARDS’ COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM PLAN
The Edwards
Immigration
Reform Plan
􀂃 Secure our borders
􀂃 Provide an earned path to citizenship that requires
English
􀂃 Preserve family reunification
􀂃 No new second‐class of laborers
􀂃 End the backlog
Secure Our
Borders
􀂃 Secure our borders and stop illegal trafficking.
􀂃 Double the number of border patrol agents and
invest in surveillance technology to police the
borders.
􀂃 Crack down on employers that hire undocumented
immigrants.
􀂃 Vigorously enforce workplace laws and increase
fines for businesses that knowingly break the rules.
Provide an
Earned Path to
Citizenship
that Requires
English
Edwards believes people who are already here should
have the opportunity to earn American citizenship if
they avoid a criminal record, pay a fine in recognition
that they came here illegally and learn English – the
surest path to success in this country.
Strengthen
Families
Edwards believes family reunification is an important
value that should be reflected in our immigration laws.
No New
Second‐Class
of Laborers
Edwards opposes new temporary guestworker
programs that do not provide adequate workplace
protections and a reasonable path to citizenship.
End the
Backlog
Edwards will end the background check backlog for
legal immigrants applying for permanent residence.

I have no problem with that!!

Do you???

You must remember this is America, and he still has to get this past "the people!"

Why do you continue to meddle in our countries intyernal policies? Wont the Queen allow you to meddle with her house?

Our immigration policy affects no other country than us.

Butt out, unless your intention is to rile the natives. I dont believe you can handle that!laugh laugh

actually to be fair

a flat sales tax on luxury items

would be the way to go

the more money you make the more luxury items you buy

we can probably agree a car is not a luxury

but a 25,000 dollar car is

say you pay the tax on any amount over 25,000 dollars
on a motor vehicle

most can get suitable transportation for that amount

you do not have to have a lexus if a chevy will get you there

I watched as Australia had an election. I said nothing, as I noticed no other American did.
It was a non issue for our country as we dont have to live there!

I have no problem with your comments caused to raise peoples anger about the war in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or any other foreign policy our country has.

This however is none of your business. It is an internal issue and does not affect the in-humane treatment Britain has towards illegal immigration.

Its obvious to me, and I cant believe Mike doesnt notice, that your interest here is only to raise anger and cause trouble! Maybe, someone needs to point this out to them!

Have a very British day!!! Watch out for those Muslims. It seems they are more apt to attack yall than us!!
