Long gone are the days when then-candidate Barack Obama called increasing America’s national debt “un-American.”
Not only was Obama’s presidency the most costly to the U.S. taxpayer, but so is his post-presidency.

Townwall reports:

Every former president gets an office, expenses and, in some cases, an annual pension payment, thanks to a 1950s-era law enacted after former President Truman struggled for income when he left the White House in 1953.

While most ex-presidents since Truman have found ways to make their life beyond the Oval Office financially rewarding, the taxpayer-funded perks have remained — and Mr. Obama is the latest to take them. (The Washington Times)

The biggest expense for former presidents is the cost of rent for their office spaces—especially for Obama and Clinton since their offices are in Washington, D.C. and New York City, respectively. Obama’s will cost $536,000 next year, while Clinton’s is $518,000. Bush 41’s office in Houston costs $286,000 and Bush 43’s in Dallas is $497,000. Carter’s Atlanta office is only $115,000.

Obama also has the most expensive pension.

Mr. Obama’s pension payment is also the highest, at $236,000. Mr. Clinton is second with $231,000, followed by the younger Mr. Bush at $225,000, the CRS memo says, citing figures from the General Services Administration, which administers the 1958 Former Presidents Act.

Obama has expensive tastes, regardless of where the money is coming from. On Thursday, news broke that the former President is scoping out property in Martha’s Vineyeard.

Realtor reported:

It’s no secret that former President Barack Obama and his family love Martha’s Vineyard, having vacationed on the idyllic Massachusetts island seven out of the eight summers they were in the White House, as well as this August. And rumors are now flying that they’re looking to purchase property in the area.

Local real estate agents are tight-lipped on the reports that the Obamas are house-hunting, since part of the charm of this island is that despite its popularity, VIPs can still get plenty of privacy. That’s why it’s a magnet for celebs—including Bill Clinton, Larry David, Alan Dershowitz, and David Letterman—some of whom can be frequently sighted at low-key hotspots like the front porch of the Chilmark General Store. According to anonymous sources cited in the Boston Globe, the Obamas are shopping for homes or land lots in the northern, less populated regions of Aquinnah, Chilmark, and West Tisbury.

In particular, the Globe suggests the former president might be eyeing two oceanfront properties in Aquinnah that were once part of the 377-acre Red Gate Farm owned by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who passed this property down to Caroline Kennedy and her husband, Edwin Schlossberg. They later subdivided it into these two parcels.

With the amount of money that presidents now make with book deals
and speaking and such. They leave the office as multi-millionars, some
are millionaire's before becoming Presidents.
It's time to end pension payments to all future and former Presidents.
Jmho.

Most people pay into a pension fund of some kind. But were not talking about average joe.
Then base the pension on their net worth when leaving office.

I have no problem with a former potus living in poverty. Like that's
going to happen.

Presidential salary should be set just above national income averge.
Pensions should be set at national average.

The president's job is to represent the will of the people of this nation. Thus their pay should also represent the people of this nation.

If the people are doing well, the president does well. Rewarding a person based on their job title is foolish. If that is the case, garbage haulers and sewage workers should be the highest paid people in the nation. Without them the country turns into a smelly heap of crap.

As far as this is concerned, all politicvians should be salaried and pensioned based on the incomes of the people they represent.

Just my opinion

Some could argue that you get what you pay for.
But then we have to look at Obarry and feel really ripped off.

I think Trump should have to take a salary and a pension.
I believe it could be used as a `scape clause.
Fair wages and benefits for a job well done and all that jazz.

??? What does that have to do with it?
We all know he has money.
Question I have is if he wasn't a political leader, would he have donated?
Does he always donate to public relief?
How much did he donate to the fire victims in California?
Ever think that his very public and applauded donation to Texas is nothing more than a ploy to win public favor?

I hold James Carter's contribution to Habitat for Humanity far superior than Trump's 1 million dollar donation.

It seems all Presidents have taken a salary and as far as the amount looks like it went up each year that is voted in...

As far as Trump he is getting a Salary he did not want one but was forced to take it.. So he donates it to charities is what I heard...

I'm sure it will be the same with his pension....

As far as where the Obama's live don't blame them I would go where I could live my life in peace...

He was voted in whether one liked what he did or what he got it was already set in motion long before he got office...

Maybe Trump will change some of that stuff but not sure if that is something he has control of... when it is involving Presidents in the future...
