Twitter permanently bans Alex Jones, Infowars citing abuse.

Twitter is permanently banning right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his "Infowars" show for abusive behavior.

To me, it's good to hear of this. This guy is the leader of the tinfoil hat brigade and one of the biggest spewers of the hate, lies, and misinformation. Next to Trump, this guy is the definition of "Fake News".

I have no idea who Jones is but I don't like censorship. When does the book burning begin?

This is the direction I fear the USA is going. Hate spreaders like Jones fire up people. And because of it, some people react like this.

to be clear people, "free speech" relates to laws passed by Congress, not to websites with rules and regulations that people AGREE to when they sign up and have a choice about BEFORE they click yes.

they are not being arrested by the state, they are being banned from a location. Just like 'free speech' does not mean you can go into a public establishment and start threatening customers, its called disruption, and people have the right to have you removed if you are being disruptive to their establishment or website, or personal property.

that was only an example of how free speech does not apply to anything but the law in terms of who can be arrested or charged.

he was apparently enough in violation of the terms and conditions of that site,,, every site has them, even this one.

Find me one website that is '1st amendment sensitive', when it means they have NO conditions or regulations on speech ...

Its like saying if I kick someone out of my house for calling another guest an insensitive name, Im not '1st amendment senstive' the first amendment expands to state and federal, not personal.

the only question is if something in THAT SITE's conditions and regulations, which are 'agreed' to when someone joins, was violated.

Twitter is a company. It has the right to censor anything it wants on its platform. Unless the American taxpayer starts footing Twitter's costs, we have no say in what they censor.

uhm i am on a few of those sights

but hate speech and free speech are 2 different things
and your house you govern ,well unless ya call the cops in , then its all on you , i would sagest caging your dog / animals before you call them , they might fear for there lifes and shoot your tea cup poodle
oops offtopic

so your examples have thrown me off a little

the same as a tv show that you don't like, no one is forcing you to listen to it

and i don't recall saying anything about they didn't have a right to do so, or it wasn't in there rules that they could
<shrug>

Im certainly not debating anything with you or any one else. Just clarifying what the term 'free speech' does and does not refer to.

websites are not mandatory, they have their terms and conditions spelled out and we can choose to use them according to THEIR terms and conditions or find a site that has terms and conditions we would RATHER use.

nothing to do with free speech. No one in the government is going to come and arrest someone for violating those terms, the website owners are just going to end that 'contract' once it has been broken by the user.
