So I'm watching the 9-11 memorial program. They have different people reading the names of the ones killed.

That is all they have to do, just read the names. But 2 black ladies take that opportunity to not only read the names but denounce racism

Why?..why take away from this memorial service to others to force others to hear your words

What gives someone the right to do that?

Even the 9-11 memorial service seems fair play for those who have no class

Seems people have forgotten that. There's a time and place for everything. A memorial for lives lost that has nothing to do with it is not it.

I dont know. It doesnt seem a network would air people simply reading a list of names. Maybe they did intend it that way, maybe they didnt. If the people reading are somehow connected to or lost lives on 9/11, I give them leeway to express their feelings.

I would not personally use tragedy for politics, but I have even seen POTUS do it. It is in bad taste. It could also be how some people mourn their personal loss.

I was going to post something today as a reminder.
I decided to wait and see if anyone remembered.
Few do.

I lost nobody I personally knew that day but when I watched it on the news I was horrified. Such a terrible loss of life.

There are children in high school right now that will never have that memory. They are fortunate. I hope they never get to have that kind of memory.

May We NEVER Forget

First of all we are not talking about Trump so leave him out of this...ok..for once..please

Secondly the network has been doing this every year since 9-11 ( reading the names)
3rd
It is family of those killed who are the ones reading the names
4th . And Year after year that what they do. Read the names . Giving the respect that is due. That is it. Read the names

With the exception of these 2 characters this year

And NO..nobody had the right to deviate from what was asked of them and insert their views..be the views right or wrong into a memorial for the dead . Nobody.

That is NOT the place to do it

No class

One of my brother was a FDNY chief at that time. He got hurt. Bad.. down there. We actually though he was dead. Another brother works for the highway department, he was one of the men driving those dump truck filled with debris and bones up that ramp Evey day to take them to the sifter . I lost friends and neighbors in those two buildings
The scar is not healed here. In this area. I don't think it ever will be.
It is actually thought of as sacred ground . If that makes any sense

First, I just wonder where is the post concerning Trump having 'no class'? Just wondering if the judgment is a consistent one ...

Secondly, I do not watch the ceremony, which is why I said they may or may not intend to air hours of people ONLY reading names.

third, I guess these two 'black women' had family they lost then, and I have the compassion for their loss not to conduct a character assassination about the way they express their feelings when invited to participate.

fourth, again, I'll take your word that they air hours of simply reading names. Like I said, I dont watch it. I do feel for the families who lost loved ones, enough not to judge what their grief might look like.

Well exactly what POTUS were you talking about Ms?

And maybe more people should watch the 9-11 services . They may learn something about human decency and class. As both were not evident with two people there today
They were there to read names like the other 100 or so people not to use that podium as their soapbox

But maybe I am wrong...anyone else feel that it is o.K for that to be done during a 9-11 memorial service ?

Well, it does to me.

A memorial service is supposed to be a memorial service.
It is the reason for the service, to remember those that are no longer with us. Its not about anything else. PERIOD

What I think should happen is that all proceeds gained from the memorial service should go to the families of the people being memorialized by the service. But, that's just my opinion.

People should treat all memorial services like it is a service for their mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister that is being remembered.
It doesn't matter that it is televised or transmitted via radio or internet. Its about the people's loss of cherished loved ones and remembering the lives they affected.

What's next, bumper stickers on the Vietnam War Memorial?

The city did ' the right thing" for all of the people killed. Mortgages were paid off. kids went to college for free. Husbands who worked for the city and we're killed were elevated in rank so their pensions were more money to their families
But people here are still dying of cancer which is directly related to 9-11 . There are programs to help the families ..but people a are still dying.
But you are right. Today is a day to remember those killed. Period

I started 2 threads in 4 months..

One on the violence in Chicago and one on the 9-11 memorial service . And do I have a problem with both. Yep I do..and with the people doing it. Ya Don't like that?..then Don't read my posts. Easy enough.

And your posts?..where are they.. Hmmm.

You see nothing wrong with what is happening in Chicago?
You see nothing wrong with someone using a 9-11 service as their personal soapbox?..or you just Don't like when people call it the way it is. Why..because I'm white and they are black?...I am not supposed to talk about it.. sorry not happening
Need more clarification..drop me a line. I'm not hard to find

And had you actually been around for awhile you would have seen my posts on the school shooters..skinheads. the mob, ect,ect ect .so you should research abit before you make comments

People were also taking selfies on this day at the memorial site.
Smiling and grinning all over the place.

Classless

This was discussed on the "TALK" today.

I have actually seen that downtown. I know the 9-11 memorial is a tourist attraction people come from all over the world to see it, but it is supposed to be a quiet place. A place to reflect and think about what happened there.
I have seen people taking pictures there and that is perfectly fine . I have also seen people taking sily selfies and laughing..and that is not fine
I have also seen people shoot those selfie takers some nasty looks ..like ' what the hell are you thinking" looks.
Would they do that at the Viet Nam war wall memorial?

Yeah right . The families of the people that were killed all over the place. Plus cops and firemen and some idiots decide its a good time for smiling selfies
I would be surprised if some of the locals didn't tell them to knock it off

I've seen that memorial service shown on tv which they do every years. The people just read a name and that's it. It's very serious and quiet. I've been to the site once, in person maybe around 14 years ago. It was still a mess at the time, but people had left so many things there out of respect.

Yes. That's what they do, just say the names as the persons pic is in the back ground . It is a very quiet very somber mood
It looks great down there. They did a very good job.
