on the loose this afternoon in most cities and states. We understand that they only eat the brains of those who opposed the speech so we suggest those who feared the speech better look out for the minions of kids after the speech is done.

I swear, I just don't get the hoo ha here. Even if the speech WAS political, do parents not realize they have far more influence over their kids than ANY politician? That one speech will not an "indoctrinated" zombie make? And seriously, we indoctrinate our kids every single day with our beliefs, but that's ok? Exposing kids to another point of view is bad? Why? It's the world they live in and will continue to live in, they might as well learn about it.
Sheesh. Fear mongering, it's a beautiful thing. |

I just feel that if we don't teach our kids to THINK, we're not educating them. And if we don't expose them to the realities of their existence, whether we like it or not, how are they ever going to learn to live in this world? And, how can not exposing them to opposing ideas possibly help them in any way? My God, if you disagree, simply do the unthinkable and actually TALK to your kids. People might be surprised at what they find out. |

Totally agree. John Taylor Gatto makes a similar point in his case against public schooling, as does Charlotte Iserbyt and G. Edward Griffin. Public schools do not teach kids to think, they teach them to take tests. I'd put my kid in private school but I can't afford it. I don't even know, they might not be any better. But, I take great pains at home to talk to my son about what he's learning. We have actual conversations. I have taught my son to question everything, even the things I firmly believe. Only then can he learn to think for HIMSELF. |
