Three In The Morning

Profile follows profile, each the same..
until your eyes stop me, seeming to see
my soul through the screen.

A fantasy forms and my finger caresses
your face encased in glass
but you will never know that touch.

It's three In The Morning when
my eyes stop you, seeming to see
your soul through the screen.

A fantasy forms and your finger caresses
my face encased in glass
but I will never know that touch.

Could words on a screen ever tell
how soft that caress..?
.
At three in the morning is when
the heart cries.

Blinking cursor awaits the hopes of new life.
Electrons are finally sent
into the void

From the void comes a ray of sun..
saying nothing at first
but still warms

The hiding leaves have fallen..
each branch exposed.. found worthy
or disappointing..

Then 'good luck with your search'
leaving the chilled bone and
the blinking cursor..

* Waiting *

I look in your eyes.. your soul and yes..
I know exactly for what you wait..
To go to that place you cannot reach alone.

Your eyes silently plead..
and looking into those deep pools.
I wait..

Tears fill your eyes..
Your body shudders.. breaking the chains,
the pride, the fear..
and you whisper 'please.. i beg you'

I touch you.. your body responds..
then surrenders to the need..
then is engulfed.

Your head rests on my chest..
and you sleep softly.

and I wait..

Wood For Winter

In the spring, none think of gathering wood for winter
The rosebuds and daffodils turn into summer's
long lazy days.. and by Autumn they reach maturity.

A few cold nights have come in Autumn
leading to thoughts of wood for Winter..
But the bright colors of the leaves
soon dispell all premonitions of any need
of wood for winter.

Yet now the first white flakes have fallen..
and the axeman wanders in the wood,
not for the quickly burning willow..
His axe is keen, seeking solid oak.
Seeking wood for winter.

I loved the line:
Brings the rain to the thirsty ground.

Thank you..

We're dressing for dinner,
and I look in the mirror
and see, there in my eyes,
a desire that I've kept inside..

I see you just come from a shower
behind me, looking in the mirror too.

I see you whom I love, whom I honor..
How can I feel what I'm feeling..?
I want to take all of you, to ravish you
not as your lover, but as a tiger..

I try to push down this desire
so unworthy of you.

Our eyes meet for an instant
there in the mirror..
I close my eyes, fearful you have seen.

and I imagine I hear a whisper..
as deep tiger purring
"Here, kitty, kitty, kitty.."

not sure of the exact quote.. but it goes something like
All good marriages are the same
Each bad marriage is different..

Give me one of them dull boring good marriages..
The ones that have found real romance..:-)

Re-read this.. it's deeper than it looks.. the last stanza is
jarring..

So what have you seen that this tranquil grove cannot even imagine..?

Do I catch just a hint of Tolkien's The Shire..?

Costly Lessons

Wrath and anger need but words and gesture..
any Mage can do them, it seems..

So gather the ingredients,
and learn the words to say:
The unfeeling touch, an unseeing eye,
a pinch of unicorn horn..
*
Tho.. beware, there may come to you a waking..
Perhaps a wounded bee, on broken wing..
in silent unscreaming pain.
*
So know ye Mages as you.. experiment
and learn on birds and mice..
the Power is yours..
*
Tho.. as you learn, a small reminder:
others pay the price

The Hiker stands yet, in the city of no illusions.
A plaque reads Las Guasimas and Santiago,
Guam and Wake, and Guantanamo.
He looks upon his brothers, of an earlier war..

Their plaque reads Antietam and Fredricksburg,
Chancellorsville and The Wilderness,
and Gettysburg.

Though no plaques exist, the Hiker knows of
Ia Drang and Hue and the Phu-to racetrack..

On CNN the hiker watches
Tahrir, Khandahar and Abbottabad and nods..

But he has no answer for the Spartans
who ask why boats still sail
from Guantanamo and Tripoli
and blood stains Tiananmen.

Down the street a young Puerto Rican dodges stones
thrown by a gang of young blacks.. whom he 'dissed'.
in the city of no illusions.

And the Hiker wonders what the terrain will be like
on Mars..

Note: The HIker was a widely-erected statue after
the Spanish-American War of 1898.
Buffalo NY is sometimes called 'The City of No Illusions'

Butt stroke..
Slash down..
Lunge..
Recover..

My Dad was a young recruit, sent to Washington (1932) to handle the
Bonus Marchers.. He would re-live that as above.. many times as I recall in my childhood.. never actually looking at me..

Only one time did he say
'The ones in front.. they couldn't get out of the way'

From Wiki: President Herbert Hoover ordered the army to clear the veterans' campsite. Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur commanded the infantry and cavalry supported by six tanks. The Bonus Army marchers with their wives and children were driven out, and their shelters and belongings burned.

I'm a military history buff.. so my thoughts went to wars..
The lines below brought me to the trenches of WWI. The
'metal men' I took to be Generals.. (you might enjoy
C.S. Forester's 'The General')

> We were herded like goats along that dark cobbled passage.
> jibes of metal men –

Then on to WWI gas attacks.. used by both sides..
Segued to Vietnam.. then WWII (gas chambers and A-bombs)
> Whose crimes were really the worst – ours or theirs?

Some are bought with manicured acres
Some with food for their children
Some with soft words they've never heard
Some to please their Mother
Some to escape her..
Some from fear of being alone.
Some think they aren't worth more.
Each wears the collar they're given
bearing their Master's name.

The slave I want wears only the collar
she herself put round her heart..
and mine.

Tinkertoys :

It's been said that if you love something,
you'll set it free..
They say if it comes back to you, it's yours..
No need to build a cage..

So what do you do if you find a Phoenix
too weak to rise from the ashes once more..?
Using tinkertoys, build her
a scaffold to lean on..

And sadly watch the luster return to her wings..
and when she flies off one day..
Smile softly, glad you found her,
and no need to build a cage..
