I read something in a profile once, that stuck ---

"The grass is always greener, where you water it"

I have always tried, while in a relationship, to appreciate the good and understand that there is never anything perfect. As long as the good out weighs the bad - it's all good - in my book.

My ex-husband became a drug addict and would not seek help.
My ex-boyfriend chose sports over a relationship.

In both relationships - the percentages flipped 80% bad 20% good ...so to speak.

It would truly be a blessing if I could find someone where it was even 70-30.laugh

I think you make a very good point - and one everyone should keep in mind while actually in a relationship.

Focus on the good!!! :) Work on the gaps. Remember to be happy.

Come on inni, men need to watch a little sports once in awhile...but also can do things with women to balance things out for fairness, you know...a little give take...rofl

Isn't it kinda funny how single parents can be out of a relationship, but you see your young children in happy relationships doing just fine with no problems at all...well with a little help too,but they look so happy all the time...laugh I guess that's enough to keep me happy...biggrin

About a year ago, I met someone online and we started talking. We hit it off !

He lives in Ohio and I live in California.

Long story short - I tried to move to Ohio. I thought my sons were ready to fly from the nest, and close to doing so - and that I could transfer with my company to our Ohio location --- half the battle.

Nothing worked out as planned, and eventually we decided to be friends.

It was a lot harder to make it happen than I thought, and very stressful.

In the end, I am still thankful for the time we had together (we met in real life twice) and if I won the lottery - who knows?! ... but,

I do not recommend long distance unless you can easily relocate.

Only met in real life twice...and all those plans to move?Wow!...shocked

Inni,I had 3 DUI's in the late 70's all on my motorcycles 1 just partying and getting pulled over for speeding and 2 a month apart trying to drink away the pain of the death of my oldest brother...(It didn't work)I did however manage to still work do a little jail time and pay my own fines BUT my parents were always there for me...My parents didn't give me "tough love" but I got it on my own through the court system by my own actions. The laws are a lot stricter today, maybe your son should try some AA meetings to help nip it in the bud before it gets out of control...It can get worse...Sorry to say this but it's true...

Oh Ya!And if he gets drunk and rides a pedal bike,he can get a DUI...

If he gets drunk and walks down the sidewalk,he can be picked up for Drunk In Public...

He really should not be drinking at all in this stage of the game...

Good Luck...

Does he drive?Does he have his own car?Being able to own and drive your own car usually is enough to encourage a young man to want and find a job and have a car to get around...That was kinda my starting point when I was about 18 and paid my parents $100 a month for rent while I lived at home with them.My parents were a huge help to me and I'm doing the same with my kids.
