shortly before noon a passenger on a Greyhound bus from Bangor, Me. to NYC called 911 in Portsmouth, N.H. to report a possible bomb on the bus. police surrounded the bus but did not clear the bus until 2 p.m. one passenger remained on the bus until 9 pm. 17 people were on the bus when the incident began. the driver disabled the bus from the outside. it is not clear at this time if the incident was a hostage situation, if the bomb was real, or if this situation was an act of terrorism. for more information see http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/07/us/07bus.html

the FBI arrested a man last at jfk airport for the failed NYC bomb plot. the man was a legal immigrant from pakistan. the fbi found a handgun in the car he drove to the airport. more bags of fertilizer were also found in a trash can outside the house he was staying at. the pakistani taliban claimed responsibility for the attack but the fbi is still sceptical of that claim. the pakistani taliban also claimed that they will attack more us cities in the next month. at this point the fbi still believes the bomber acted alone. for more information see http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/05/04/new.york.car.bomb/index.html?hpt=T1&iref=BN1

the explosion happend on a rig off the Louisiana coast at around 10 pm tuesday. 17 workers were hurt and 11 remain unaccounted for. 126 people were on the rig at the time of the explosion and most escaped unhurt. the coast guard is searching for the missing workers. the fire continues to burn because the rig was driling at the time of the explosion. most of the oil releasted by the blast is burning and therefore not spiling into the gulf of mexico. the rig is starting to sink. the cause of the explosion is not known at this time. for more infrmation see http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/04/21/oil.rig.explosion/index.html

around 15 people were wounded when atleast 2 bombs explosions occured in the southern indian city of Bangalore. the blasts occured near the outer wall of a cricket stadium. a game was about to get under way and the stadium was full. the explosions appeared to be too weak to cause structural damage to the stadium. no group has claimed responsibility for today's attack. this is not the first bombing in Bangalore in 2008 a wave of 7 small bombs killed 2 and wounded 20. for more information on today's bombing see http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/18/world/asia/18india.html

oklahoma city was actualy the third worst terrorist attack in the us. on 10/31/99 the backup copilot (an egyptian national) on egyptair 990 from LA to New York to Cairo took control of the plane over the atlantic somewhere off the coast of MA. he waited until he was alone at the controls and began causing problems. he turnd off the auto piolt and the engines. he then put the plane into a steep dive. another crew member came in and the two fought for the controls. the plane puled up sharply then broke up. all 217 people on board were killed. 33 egyptian military officers and many american tourists were on borad. the presence of these 2 groups most likely explains the motive for the attack. cidizens of 7 countries died in the attack. for more information see http://www.ntsb.gov/Publictn/2002/aab0201.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EgyptAir_Flight_990#Passengers

a newly released U.N. report states that the pakistani gov. failed to provide effective security for former pakistani prime miniser Benazir Bhutto upn her return frm self-imposed exile in 2007. the report also accused the pakistani government of deliberately not fully Investigating the attack. the government of pakistan immediately blaimed the pakistani taliban for the assassination. while the taliban was probably had some role in the assassination it is also likely that the pakistani intelegene service (isi) also had a hand in the assassination. the report states "The commission believes that the failure of the police to investigate effectively Ms. Bhutto's assassination was deliberate," and "These officials, in part fearing intelligence agencies' involvement, were unsure of how vigorously they ought to pursue actions, which they knew, as professionals, they should have taken." for more information see

3 blasts at a southeastern asian new years celebration in Yangon Myanmar left 20 dead and 70 wounded. the government of Myanmar claims claims only 8 people were killed. the motive of the attack is not known at this time. no group claims resposibiliy for the bombing at this time. bombings in Myanmar are rare because the military government of the country controls the countury so strictly. however this is not the first attack in the country. for more informatin see http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/04/15/myanmar.blast/index.html?hpt=Sbin

Over the summer i went to New York City and went to the World Trade Center site now known as ground zero. Nothing could have prepared me for that first view of the scale of the destruction i saw on the other side of the security fence. Some reconstruction work has been done but most of the site looks just like it did the day the last scrap of debris was removed. The most Profound part of the experience was the feeling of being in a cemetery of 3000 unmarked graves. A slight trace of WTC dust still blows around the site in the small gusts of wind off the hudson river. All of this creates a site where the highest level of respect must be shown. I did this and therefore i hope all visitors from the day after the attack to the end of time do the same.
