Thank you all for your kind words. I did do a 'male' version but it didn't seem right, didn't flow,

She sits, reaching out, to a world of strangers she's never known
Pictures of faces upon her screen.
Words looking back at her, all of her, her own.
They look at her, in passing, never seen.

They have words, written to impress.
Likes and not likes, fantasies in black and white.
Portraits, she sees, but has to guess,
Are they real, or tricks of fright.

She hesitates as she clicks to choose, nice smile, or nice eyes.
Too late that click is done.
Too late now for the how's or why's.
Now it's serious , no longer fun.

She gets a message, what does it mean?
Is it truth, a lie, she knows not.
Over and over she reads and tries to glean,
Some semblance of understanding she thinks she got.

Trembling now, she types her reply.
Fearful of the mistake she may have made.
Her words seem wrong, hard to try.
She sends, she hopes, still afraid.

What will he say?, how will she know?
For his words she yearns. Will he be real?
Will he be false? How far will he go?
Will he know what I think, will he know what I feel?

When, at last, his words appear,
She reads them again and again, just to be sure.
A smile in her heart replaces the fear.
His words are kind, his thoughts are pure.

Words that hint she could trust.
Her fear, slowly, turns to calm.
Feelings on show, she feels she must,
Truth is shared with no sign of qualm.

Moments together, emotions they share.
Days turn to weeks, all in an instant.
They learn, they know they care.
No longer alone, no longer distant.

Then, one day, they meet.
She reaches out again, this time no stranger in sight.
She knows now, she feels the heat.
She knows now it feels so right.
