2050? That's really not too far in the future, 29 years is like 1992 right now. Many people dating now will probably be divorced and re-entering the dating world.

By 2050 world population (at present trend) will likely be 10 billion or more.
We're nearly at 8 billion now. COVID 19 could mutate and become deadlier or a new pandemic might be upon us by then (most likely due to population density).

Social functions will become even more isolated and 'virtual'. Inoculation certification may be needed for actual dates. The selection process may begin requiring health and environment histories on the part of both parties for meet-ups. Mating selection might be a bit more restrictive both on a public and private preference. Likely medically or governmentally controlled.

If the pandemic is not a crisis, the dating process will change very little. Population density will likely determine wealth. Cities will start becoming commerce and industrial centers with populations moving to more sparsely populated areas. It was the 'idea' behind sub-division communities in the first place. To move residences out of the city. Farm land will be being bought up for constructing housing blocks. Cost of living expenses will continue to rise while paychecks will continue to lose value.

Due to population and economy, dating standards and traditions will still exist but will be in a state of change. What we call 'new' dating methods now will likely be retro dating by then. Pretty much the same as the differences we see from dating in the 1980s & 90s.

The core values of love, dedication, respect and connection will still exist but the ways we will be expressing those things will be in the process of change to reflect the living standards and restrictions set by health, economics and population density.

New trends might be developing which will allow dating by virtual reality while wearing a type of 'encounter suit' which relays touch, smells and ambient audio directly to another suit over a wireless, secure network. VR technology already exists in a limited way right now.

The movie Ready Player One (2018) explores this type of sensory transmission in the 'synaptic boot suit'. The whole film is centered on a virtual world of interaction. The concept is interesting given our current pandemic restricted social distancing requirements. However, the technology saturation will likely not be as wide-spread as the film suggests, at least not by 2050 but it may be taking baby steps.

Computer generated 'match' selections might pull from your personal online preferences to a higher degree. With the rise of 'smart devices' and personal preference histories what you watch, listen to, buy and look at may be used to auto generate a searchable profile of you when you register for certain dating apps. It may take your GPS histories and select matches for you based on your preferences and histories within your 'domain'. Your dating site search results will reflect a closer to 'you' selection pool. Not only in distance but your personal preferences and history.

I do believe the actual 'decision to date' will remain up to the individuals but your searching will be a bit more precise. Each will still need real-life encounters to hone the connection. Dating will still happen. Sexual hook-ups will still happen. Affairs and one-night stands will still happen. People will still fall in love or get hurt very badly. Sadly, scammers, tricksters and liars will still exist. 30 years is not enough time to see a change in human nature.

By 2050, these things may be beginning to trend but not mainstream. However, if the trend takes hold it will drive innovation and acceptance. Where it goes from there will depend on the success rate over a larger portion of the social population.
