Talking of things done, I just had reason to recall visiting a cemetery where i observed how subsidence, the affect of marauding tree-roots as well as decades and decades of rainfall had wreaked havoc amongst what must once have been carefully laid out walkways and the spaces in between some of the final resting places of the deceased.

In the ground, some of the gravestones had become tilted this way and that, looking like an open mouth with exposed teeth that would have once upon a time benefitted from the enforced restraint of braces. While others had already given up the ghost entirely and lay shattered, facedown, on the ground, like scattered pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that you damned well knew could never, ever be gathered up and interlocked to compose the original form.

All of which meant that it was darned nigh impossible to see who it was that lay there. And yet still numerous more of the graves had sunken into the earth as though burrowing further away from the living. Didn't take much imagination to fathom out that over time the Earth Herself would envelop it all as landfill.

Amidst all this dilapidation a stray thought crossed my mind as I registered the words and sentiments chiselled into the headstones and tombs - inanimate objects that had not yet met with their own version of fate evident all around them! Yes, my idle mind pictured a comedian looking on at all of this and turning to a passerby asks, "You reckon any of them ever had an earth-moving experience in the bedroom?"

=============

In case you are wondering what prompted me to not only recall that garbage but to share it in public, I would reply that iI was under the influence of random thought association brought about by finding that a topic I had contributed to had been moved from where it had been into the arena of Sports, Health & Fitness.

No, it's not arrogance brought on by impure ego nor am I complaining; but rather simply observing that in life & in death things once taken as solid foundations can be made to move with startling consequences... What does a dropped-dead beaten up poet-less human need with Sports & Fitness?!

A reality-televised slice of life
That requires of us not to dial-in our vote
But instead to bear witness to a Mother's Love
Bursting out of the abode of Her Heart,

Unimaginable woe dispelled by self-less courage;
An Oval ball propelled beyond a chalked line;
To make points level in the wake of a try
That underscores the calibre of Her self-less deed

Twin bairns perched in the crook of either arm
As though securely berthed within a Chariot.
Piloted by a Shepherdess,
Transporting them Majestically from Wembley's hallowed turf
Atop which a Final Cup in Dad's Honour may play-out a last Challenge.
And all the while as we await the final hooter
An Almighty rain-dance pours from all our weeping eyes.

Yes, A reality-televised slice of life
That requires of us not to dial-in our vote
But instead to bear witness to a Mother's Love
Bursting out of the abode of Her Heart,
