When my son was staying with me and on holiday from University, he would come out and do roofing jobs with me. I paid him the same rate as the rest of the guys, but never asked him for any keep, as I didn't need it. He insisted that he paid though, as he was staying in my house, eating my food and using my phone, etc. We came to a compromise that suited us both.
