Melody, in case you didn't read the OP, she was asking for opinions! All I've seen from many people, including the OP, is despite the fact that a person may be a great person, if they have a problem with their teeth, it automatically makes them unwanted. Pretty damn superficial of a lot of you.

Some people appear to be assuming he lost his teeth in a fight as a grown adult, when indeed, NOTHING was ever mentioned as to WHEN he lost them in said fight. It could have been when he was a child. Indeed, he may not have even started the fight in the first place. None of us can make those assumptions, because the facts were never presented to us.

Isn't it ironic that so many women whine and complain that they're "only looked at because of their looks", or they're "treated like an object....why can't men like me for ME??", etc., ad nauseum.

But let a GUY have a physical discrepancy, and suddenly he's "beneath" them.

Double-standard, anyone?

Look, teeth are important..that's just the way it is. Were not talking about a limp, a bad arm or a big scar here were talking about no front teeth. If I'm with someone and they have an incident where they lose teeth..well that's one thing..Or fake teeth..no biggie..

But a first meeting, a toothless smile..no. I'm betting 99.9% of the people on here feel that way, whether they say it or not..

It's not about being "beneath"....it about what is attractive to one. I like a nice smile, I find it attractive..without teeth that wouldn't be there..

So why don't you just come right out and say it then? You're more impressed with someone's physical appearance rather than their personality.
[/quot]

That's not true, personality is important to me..more than you will ever know...first impressions are important whether we like it or not. His personality would have to be spectacular for me to be able to look past no teeth..

I call "bullsh!t"

Truth be told, I HAVE dated a lady who had partials, both upper and lower, due to an accident she had been in. Just because a person may be missing some or all of their teeth does not automatically equate them to being a buckwah.

Thanks anniepie. I think it's the game where a bunch of guys in tights run one way and some other guys in another color tights run into them and knock each other's teeth out.

at least thats better than a bar fight......
and i would have his nfl salary to comfort me :)

Ahhhhh, so materialism plays a part! The truth reveals itself.

Yes, it does make you shallow. Your opening sentence reads:

talked to a guy for a few weeks, slowly building anticipation to meet him,

This leads me to believe that up until this point, he appeared to you to have all the qualities in a man that attract you.

Then:

turns out he has no teeth! WTF?? it turned out to be a deal-breaker for me.

So, now that you know that he suffers from this personal affliction, he's no longer attractive to you because his physical appearance isn't up to your personal snuff? People suffer from lack of teeth for a variety of reasons. It isn't always due to being in a fight. They could've been in an accident. They could be a victim of a hereditary degenerative disease that they have no control over. Hell, it could be something as simple as not being faithful with their toothbrush. In any case, it does not detract from the person they are. Either a person is a good person, or they're a jackass, and it goes for women as well as men. Perhaps he honestly COULDN'T afford to get them fixed, and they DON'T pose an issue for him. That's still no reason to reject him if he's a decent person otherwise. Granted, physical appearance is probably the biggest initial attraction for anyone (let's be honest), but personality always trumps looks.
