This happened to me when I was young. My Father told us that everything was going to be fine, Mom just needed her space, he was very supportive of us and he never put her down. She was gone for a year without contacting us, and when we did see her, the hatred that could have been wasn't in our hearts thanks to my Dad. I hope this helps you. Best wishes
