Sheesh, I feel positively guilty about the fact that other than dying in 2006 I've only ever been sick 3 times in my entire adult life - all three times bedridden with a really bad case of the flu for a few days.

Still have all my body parts too, appendix & tonsils still in place and doing whatever it is they are supposed to be doing.

I broke a knuckle bowling once, does that count?

Never got the Co-Vid even.

makes All Black Screen - and colors
Links do not properly encode when embedded under a statement.
Mingle2 removes the colon from the https://allblackscreen.com
You end up with a "trouble finding that address" notice.
https://google.com
They don't even encode as an honest link - same missing colon translation problem in the redirect.

Colors (& I'm assuming all BBCodes) work in front of the replacement words in the url= embedded ones but you have to use the end color bracket after it & before the end url bracket or everything ends up colored.
{url=https://linktosomewhere}{color=GREEN}{b}{i}words you want as a linky label{/i}{/b}{/color}{/url}
^italicized brackets disable commands, when showing BBCode examples^

It feels really strange to be posting in a forum in the 1st person.
For a quarter century I scrupulously posted in the 3rd person to maintain my non-bias neutrality in the articles I would post.

It's tricky but I did it for so long that referring to myself as "he"/"him"/"his" or "HYATT™'s" became almost automatic.
In here I have to unlearn that & still reflexively type in the 3rd person & have to correct it to "I" or "me".

Don't let anyone try to fool ya, it takes a special skill to write in the third person when discussing your own opinions and such.
The advantage is you can go back and read it as A 1st person & get the same "feel" for it as your intended audience will experience.

It REALLY helped me see unintended bias that would creep in from time to time and change the article up a little to eradicate any hint of a personal bias in the viewpoint I was trying to get across using "proofs", such as they were.

When opinions are like azzhools (everybody has one) making a reputation as an honest opinion writer takes a long time and a lot of very hard work to get to a point where your reading public doesn't just dismiss whatever you say because they think yer just looking at something from a "homer" PoV - & doubly so when you are writing about the NFL where it's ALL "opinion" and very rarely do any "absolutely indisputable truths" exist.

Looking for a bar with cheap whiskey, cold beer, and hot wemens.

More of a hot beer, cold whiskey, & cheap wimmins type personally, but occasionally will change it up and drink a warm, stale, beer somebody didn't finish.
laugh
I look for the ones somebody put a ciggy butt out in to feed my niccy addiction.

The 5-in-a-row was put in just for that problem.. to keep scammers away..

As far as the 500 characters that was put in later... And yes it is a issues for those of us that seem to write a book in emails..

I have found out I do paragraphs instead now so if I get the code that my message is too long.. I just copy so many paragraphs from the bottom delete send then paste and copy following the same way till I can send it all..

Until you hit the 5 post limit, but yeah, learned that trick right away.

I used to write 2,000-3,000 word articles filled with linkys and such, that often took me 8 hours or more of research to compile.
Then, right when I was about to upload the blessed thing, I'd go to make some little spelling correction and accidentally delete the entire article with no hope of recovery in the posting box.
Those things don't automatically back you up every few minutes.

So dayum frustrating to lose so much time and effort that often I didn't even try to do it all over again.
Now I operate by writing the entire article in Word or notepad, which at least warn me if I accidentally try to delete it.
Still screw up from time to time but far less often & it really reduces my frustration levels.

I thought the filming and story were very good in "Legends of the Fall" but Julia Ormond has never made a film that I liked her acting in.
She just doesn't have the chops, though she's gotten better over time since making "Legends of the Fall".

Ahh no ways, I have to disagree. One also has to take into consideration that after her encounter with a certain heavy weight producer, she was blacklisted at the peak of her career. Nevertheless, she is fantastic. We will simply have to disagree. :sunglasses::sunglasses:

That's a real thingy.
My eldest is a film aficionado with tastes much in accordance with what his mother's were.
He thinks De Nero is all that while I believe Duvall is by far the superior actor.
He likes watching silent movies while I just can't.

While we agree on many things about the movies, each of us has our own quirks/likes/dislikes.
Yet when it comes to rating a movie we often give it the same rating - which just goes to show he recognizes superior game in his father.

@OldCoot
"Dead Man Walking" is with Sean Penn & Susan Sarandon. She won her Academy Award for her role and it was directed by her then partner, Tim Robbins. It's a brilliant film. However, I've only watched it twice and it's brutal especially as it's based on a true story. South African television actually aired this film the night before Tim McVeigh's execution.
I think you're referring to "Dead Man" when you reference Johnny Depp as he starred in that film.

OT: I watched "Legends of the Fall" for the 10 0000th time. It's a beautiful film. Julia Ormond is effortless in her role. The score is special too.

Thank you for the correction on "Dead Man" Merry.

Don't like that 5-in-a-row rule.
How's a fella suppose to stalk a girl with less than 6 consecutive messages?

Seriously, it does get in the way sometimes when coupled with the 500 character limit per post - because, as I've mentioned, 1 word will never do when I can write a novelette.

Particularly when there are language barriers & you have to explain half the shizzle yer saying to someone yer jist startin' out with.

One complete thought for me can run several hundred words - & that's when I'm being succinct.

AOL had some of the best chat rooms...lol Get that 30 day free trial disk so each month you had a new screen name...lol

AOL was US based.. no?

I don't recall having it here in Canada..

America On Line?

and why I don't recall it being in Canada.. eh winking

I met a few Canucks through AOL when I first went online but soon switched to my wife's free dial-up through the U of WI where she worked.

The name pretty much describes who & where they originated but eventually they became global.
Had a good run in the dial-up era but failed to invest enough to compete in the DSL/Cable faster digital world.
There are still functional AOL email accounts floating around - people who can't be arsed enough to get a different domain server because they rarely use email anyway.

IT companies have a 10 year life cycle, forums follow a similar life span.
They are hot right out of the gate with some new angle but eventually the next "best thing since cheeze-wizz" comes along and displaces them in the market.

why I can't send a PM to the ol'coot! spock

Mail settings were female, 150 miles, and 55-75.
I changed them to anybody, any distance, & 30-100 so we'll Zee how it goes.

Are PMs different than Mail here?
I haven't noticed a direct message function other than what they call "Mail".

What set me off?
Who do you think?
The resident eternal burning flame of hating, of course.
I keep trying to gently drag him out of that Faux sNooze silo he lives in but apparently he has sucker arms like an octopus when it comes to clinging to unreality.

2 Johnny Depp entries for yas;
"Dead Man Walking"
"The Libertine" - perhaps the one that signaled Depp had finally achieved permanent A-List status.

Forgot to list "Giant" with my selection of vintage films my wife really loved.
I'm not as hot on it but my eldest son thinks it belongs in every personal films library.
