Good and evil exist everywhere. If you are religious, you might even think of both as simply 'misprints' from God (good) and the Devil (evil)! Of course, we hope that good always outweighs evil.
Sadly, we actually see and hear about evil more than we see or hear about good because evil is much 'louder' and so often linked to the abuse of power, such as in warmongers, whereas good is much 'quieter' and therefore tends not to grab headlines and goes unnoticed so we have to look for it.
Generally speaking, having been fortunate enough to have travelled to many countries and met so many people from so many different backgrounds and circumstances, I've found that the overwhelming majority of people are good and just want to live in peace to make life as comfortable and secure as their circumstances and opportunities will allow.
I think the key is to always look for similarities and not differences when meeting others for the first time, no matter what their ethnicity or circumstances, and not to have preconceptions created by third party bias and bigotry.
As a Humanist, and unlike 'Elena', I am unencumbered by any religious beliefs or dogmas. I don't need any religion to tell me how to live my life. I am perfectly capable of leading an ethical/moral life without religion. As my guidance, and as a basic tenet of Humanism, I aim to try to leave this world a (marginally!) better place than when I entered it.
And as an Atheist, I expect no afterlife when I die, only oblivion, just as there was before I was born.
For me, there is no need to cloak the distinction between good and evil in religious terms, I know which side I want to be on!
Peace and love, people! Be nice to each other!
