I’ve decided to completely remodel my kitchen.
I’m building everything from scratch. I can do that. No cabinetry is beyond my skill. I’m a carpenter.  What I’m looking for are fairytale kitchen ideas. Pictures of kitchens in fairytales I don’t care if they are cartoon drawings. I’m just looking for ideas in artwork for cabinetry and so forth. Anything WEIRD or out of the ordinary.  If you see anything on the web post a link to it here. Thanks. No videos please – I’m on dial-up. |

I don't have a pic; I'm not a carpenter by trade but I can make anything without a blueprint or drawing. Once built a log house.
Here's my idea. I live in an old Victorian that has a zillion windows, including the kitchen. So everything is scattered all around else I'd have to park something i front of a window. There used to be perhaps a gas or wood stove; this thing is over 100 years old. The chimney is still there because it was used later for a gas water heater - chimney extends all the way to basement. What I plan to do is find one of those old old gas range/stoves and put it in the middle of the floor like an island. I have 10 foot ceilings so I can run the flue way up above everything. Then I am going to have cast iron railings about 7 foot up to hang all the pots and pans on. The cabinets I am going to make to fit for the spaces between the windows, probably out of knotty pine. I will also do the floor in knotty pine boards. I don't know if you can picture all of that, but I can - no drawing is needed. |

I don't know if you can picture all of that, but I can - no drawing is needed. my dad is the same way.....when he started making my sister's new bedroom he put built in cabinets and whatnot right into the walls, built the dresser into the wall (he started out with an unfinished basement and built everything from scratch) and now he has a family room, my sister's bedroom, bathroom, weight room, and didn't use blueprints for anything....just built it out of his head. |

Are you going for something like Medieval castle kitchen or more of a Rivendell LOTR elvin kitchen ?

I liked the second two you posted. The first one was a bit too modern looking athough it was unusual. I like the Gothic stuff. And the last one you posted was nice because it reminded me that I can get carried away with other stuff besides wood and glass too! Like ceramic tile work. That's a nice touch. I'm not looking to precisely replicate anything, but I might build something very similar using ideas. Good ideas Josh!

Are you going for something like Medieval castle kitchen or more of a Rivendell LOTR elvin kitchen ? I'm not afraid of leaded glass or stained glass either, I can do that too. I'm looking for anything 'fairytale-ish". Preferrible rustic, or ancient, medieval, or just plain quaint. Sometimes even simple stuff can be interesting. I'm not afraid of curves or weird angles either. I can also build stuff from actual tree limbs. I cut my own lumber anyway. So boards or limbs makes no difference to me. I'm just brainstorming ideas right now. Then I'll try to piece together the weirdest looking kitchen you can imagine that's actually functional in a pragmatic kind of way. So whatever you see that you think might be cool lemmi know. |

I should mention also, that I'm interested in anything that goes in a kitchen. Anykind of cupboards, plate racks, towel holders, etc.
Anything I can build from wood, or glass, or possibly tile. Kitchen windows too. I'll be putting in new windows, also homemade. I already have some idea of what I'll do there, but more ideas are always cool. |
