When i was watchin the News the other day about some grade school tryin to teach young kids about gays and lezbians to prevent Bullying the parents didnt like for one cause its forcing a politcal choice on kids, but the bottem line is about faith....Why is always about faith? Why cant People just say "hey i dont like what you are teachin my kids."

Why is the enough Religion to incite war but not enough Religion to Instill Tolerance?

Schools are made of of children that are from families, that encompass our society. Children need to learn about the society in which they live. All of it, good, bad, indifferent.

I would prefer my kid learn about it from me or in a classroom where there is actual information disseminated. My son goes to public school because this is what I had, and what I want for him. Actual societal influences in his education.

If a person does not like what is taught in school, go private or home school. JMO

I can understand why the schools are teaching about tolerance towards gays to prevent bullying. Kids can be cruel and the teenage gay popluation has a very high suicide rate.

But when ever this topic comes up its always about religion...WHY?

Gay and lesbian lifestyle is part of the world and children need to learn the world. If the personal religion teaches it is wrong then the children need to understand it may be wrong for them but others have the right to be whatever they feel.

because alot of hypocrits are religious and they think everything has to do with religion

according to my religion

homosexuality is against gods plan

and that very well maybe , however it is not for me to judge just because they are homosexual in anyway
nor is it my place to judge anyone for anything

religious beliefs or not , people are people no matter what their sexual orientation might be and they all deserve to be treated with respect, should the public school system where i live choose to teach my children respect for individuals of all orientations races or religions

then i would be 100% behind them

Well the problem is people think that if it is wrong by their religion then it is wrong for everyone. If they remember that a religion is personal and effects only their own personal choices then it would be alright.

the only real answer i have for u wiccian is that we live under the thumb of organized religion. If a christian does not like something being said or done s/he goes to thier church and starts a war making that thing public to the government and then banned. People who have diffrent reliogios belifs(I going to assume you do not practice organized reliogion:wink: ) really have no power in what is said and done because we don't ever ban together as one.

I think that tolerance should be taught, but a need to basis, and I believe that a parent should have some control over what a kid is taught. Like with sex ed, a parent should have to sign something refusing to let the kid take the class. Religion is so divided on the subject so that is probably why it comes up. Personally bullying should be stopped, but a cousin of mine (who is gay) was laughing because he got a kid expelled because the kid ignored him. "It was bullying," said the principal and that I found to be wrong.

I grew up in Northampton,MA, which anyone who Googles it will find out that it has a LARGE gay and lesbian population. The case of religion is always brought up because MOST religions frown upon homosexuality. In regards to bullying, it happens both ways, and unfortunately the gay person will always win because he is a minority.

It just made me mad that my aunt let him get away with that. My cousin has always been pampered, and my aunt treats him better than her straight son. The whole situation upsets me, especially since he told my family on my grandmother's birthday and hit on my ex. The whole situation is just bad.

You don't have to be christian to be tolerant. They are not mutually exclusive or inclusive....
