Because it's pretty much what the Christian Bible teaches. Therefore, that's why it's believed.

Just like Jehovah's Witnesses only believe there are 44,000 (not sure if that's the correct number) that make it through the pearly gate or something like that.

Just like the Muslim's and Mormon's believe it's good works along with a belief in God or Allah. And Mormon's have different levels of heaven based on your good works.

It's all related to the literature of their religion.

Fortunately it doesn't matter what people think. We're all going to the same place in the end. Right back where we came from.

I think it's really sad that anyone would think that God would abandon anyone. Such a dismal view of God they have.

They believe God to be a judgmental tyrant who created a world where souls can be lost to eternal damnation. Do they even have a clue what kind of a God that would be?

They claim that with God all things are possible. But they seriously can’t think that well.

If with God all things are possible then it would be possible to create a world were no souls are lost, and there is no need for demons and eternal damnation. But they genuinely can’t even conceive of a God that it truly omnipotent.

They can only think of God in human terms as a frail flawed jealous and egotistical dictator who becomes angry as well as happy and sad. They have God weeping because he sees people being cast into eternal damnation and he is powerless to prevent it.

The God they’ve created in their minds is far from all-powerful, or all-wise. And the limitations that they have placed on God are their very own limitations. They have God being almost as powerless as they are.

I believe that God truly is all-powerful and all-wise. There was never any fallen angels that God lost control over. God would never be at war with anyone. God has no need to be at war with anyone. God’s power cannot be threatened. It’s not an egotistical judgmental power like the biblical story would have us believe.

God isn’t prejudiced. He doesn’t have a ‘favorite people’. God loves everyone equally, and everyone will return home where they belong. No one will fall short of the glory of God, because God’s glory is not based on egotistical pride.

These people who claim that God is like this can’t seem to realize that such an entity would be far from all-powerful, all-wise, and all-loving.

They are so anxious to have God hate non-believers of their faith that they will do anything to perpetuate that ideal.

Spreading hate for Jesus' sake, it's such an oxymoron.

It’s truly sad.

Well, Christians are atheists too. They don't believe in Mithras or in Osiris or in Horus or in Zoroaster, Poseidon, or Zeus. The list goes on and on of gods that Christians reject--even those who were around long before Christ who made remarkably similar claims. Here, you might want to check out Horus--who lived long before Christ.

And to the point of this post Jews and Christians completely disagree on who Christ was, his relevance, and his divinity (or lack thereof.)

Interesting.

Well, as it relates to "other gods" they are. Find me someone who believes in Poseidon today, who actually believes in that ancient god. When it comes to Poseidon, they are anti-theists. I am not saying that they are atheists regarding Christ, only that there are many gods of antiquity that they do not believe in--either in their divinity or in their existence.
