I hate travelling. Getting into a car or plane and traveling has no appeal to me. But I am obcessed with the cruising lifestyle. Living in a boat and travelling anywhere I want sounds so wonderful. I have read that a family of four can live comfortably in a boat for $500 / month in Mexico. With a properly outfitted boat and a willingness / ability to do general maintiance, it would be possible to live most of your life on the open ocean. Imagine waking up in the Bahama's one day and in Mexico a week later without ever leaving home. Want to see Greece? It's less than a week away.

Hate to poke a hole in your sail, but ever hear of hurricanes?

I stayed on a guys house boat for a couple of days, but it was in Chesapeake Bay...not on the ocean. I don't know if I would get sea sick. I don't on a cruise liner, but the Bay got a lot rockier than that. I'd have to try it out before I made some big move like that.

Yes, with an aluminum/steel/wooden boat you can beach before the storm hits and and wait for high tide to head back out. You can also anchor inside of a river and tie up the boat from four points to trees or anything else that will stand the wind. After the storm passes you go back to the ocean. And it's always possible to anchor yourself away from rocks and ride the storm out. People do it all the time. There are many octagenarians who do it every year.

I would go with a sailboat. I have read that it takes awhile to get used to, but once you are used to the waves you miss them when you go on shore.

I like driving and traveling that way. I have never been on a boat on the ocean just on a lake so that would be a great experience for me. I would be willing to try it.

I used to do it for work and hated it. It was okay once you were there, but the travel wasn't fun. Being stuck in a car or cramped into a plane...maybe it's because I'm 6'4" and cars and planes aren't made for people my size.

It sure sounds like fun! I live in Florida or Virginia most every winter and it's strange now to think that I've never been out on a boat on the ocean before. Why haven't I? Doh! When I get back, I'll make a point of it, for sure. happy

You have hurricane season for six months a year and only 6 hurricanes on average / year.

6 4 well that explains alot lol, I have problems getting in and out of a car and I am 5 10 or so, so that makes sense. You are scrunch kneed no matter which one. You do know that sail boats are scrunched quarters too though. I don't know about house boats though.

I would be above deck most of the time. I'm okay bending over anyways, but my knees kill me when I'm scrunched into a tiny place.
