ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) - A 6-year-old Astoria boy who got his mother the medical attention she needed was recently honored for his heroic action.

Cobe Young was home alone Jan. 10 when his mother suffered a seizure. Though scared by the situation, he called 9-1-1 and stayed on the line for 10 minutes until authorities could zero in on his location.

In the aftermath of the December storm, Enhanced 9-1-1, which displays the name and address of the caller, was not working.

So dispatcher Shirley Krepky first had to determine where the boy was calling from.

Through a series of questions, Cobe was able to provide Krepky with the correct location. When paramedics arrived, they stabilized Cobe's mother and took her to the hospital for additional care.

Interim Police Chief Alan Oja presented Cobe with the Astoria Police Department's Distinguished Service Commendation Award.
