some people asked me in Emails what is COPD I thought I post it here
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a lung disease in which the lungs are damaged, making it hard to breathe. In COPD, the airways—the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs—are partly obstructed, making it difficult to get air in and out.
Cigarette smoking is the most common cause of COPD. Most people with COPD are smokers or former smokers. Breathing in other kinds of lung irritants, like pollution, dust, or chemicals, over a long period of time may also cause or contribute to COPD.
The airways branch out like an upside-down tree, and at the end of each branch are many small, balloon-like air sacs called alveoli (al-VEE-uhl-EYE). In healthy people, each airway is clear and open. The air sacs are small and dainty, and both the airways and air sacs are elastic and springy. When you breathe in, each air sac fills up with air like a small balloon; when you breathe out, the balloon deflates and the air goes out. In COPD, the airways and air sacs lose their shape and become floppy. Less air gets in and less air goes out because:
· The airways and air sacs lose their elasticity (like an old rubber band).
· The walls between many of the air sacs are destroyed.
· The walls of the airways become thick and inflamed (swollen).
· Cells in the airways make more mucus (sputum) than usual, which tends to clog the airways.

Congrats on quiting I'm just over one year smoke free and loving it, its so worth it. No desire to take back the habit (didn't want to even through the divorce), the pros of stopping far out weighs anything.
When I quit it was over an arguement with my then wife about her drinking, she said it was like smoking...you just can't quit it, haven't had one since that day to show her. She never stopped and I've changed my reasons to not smoke, its for me now not to show her.
Good job to all of those that have quit and good luck to all those trying.

whatever the incentive the research has shown that the benefits start immediately as you stop but it takes 10 years that the lungs clear from all traces of Nicotine. On that basis my lungs have been clear for 10 years nice thought
I bet your food tastes better and by the way a pack a day at about $3x365= $1095 better off well done

I quit many times...I just can't seem to stay quited. The longest I lasted was 4 months.I can't believe I started again after that long.
Now I am gonna try it again because here in N.Y. a pack of smokes cost 6-7 bucks (thats crazy)
Anyhow I smoked my last cigarette on my lunch break at work today...so it's been about 7 hrs
Anyone want to quit with me?

Just for the record.... I saved 6 bucks today!! wahoooooooo!

I used to drink lots of coffee and strong too .
When I tried to quit , it was hard but slowly slowly I quit for good .
My doctor convinced me it was no good for me and I quit for good .
If you want to stop something , just try slowly , slowly and you get your goal .
Good luck Hun .

you don't have to be non smoker to come here.it gives inspiration to people to see the mental process of the preparation for quiting
I am grateful that you decided to contribute because it keeps the thread alive.
