The reasoning behind the resurrection of these types of movies is because they were big draws when they first came out. The movie industry is attempting to lure the 30-40 age group back into the movie theaters.

What they don't realize is, that the movies aren't going to be the big draw they hope for, it will probably end up going straight to video, but the reason we don't go to the movie theater anymore is because it costs way too much to go. We would rather wait for it to come out on video and stay at home and watch it. That way if we have to go visit the restroom, want to eat something other than a $9 bucket of popcorn, we can do that without getting thrown out for smuggling something in.

Not only that, but the studios already own the IPs (intellectual properties) in question. That means they don't have to go about copyrighting or trademarking stuff, nor do they have to buy the script from the person who wrote the thing to begin with as it was all already paid for on the first go-around. All they'd have to do is have a ghost writer punch out a lame-ass story, and they're set.

Then the producers can go about giving themselves (and the stars of the movie) a nice fat six-figure paycheck while they bone the crews out of THEIR pay by calling their film "low-budget", which is completely bogus.

You'd think that, after making two other sequels of "Beverly Hills Cop" back in the day (both of which stunk to high heaven, BTW) that the geniuses at Paramount would have gotten the hint and put the franchise to rest. Unfortunately, that seems not to be the case, as their level of greed is just too great.

Heck- the flick will probably stink to begin with.
