When you first message someone, what do you usually say in the message? What works, what doesn't?

Say the first thing that comes to mind. Oh, you're 22. Say the 7th thing that comes to mind.

I don't message someone unless I already have something specific to say to them.

If there is something that you "usually say" it is going to sound like a form letter.

Don't message someone until you have something to say and you won't need to ask questions like that.

The seventh thing that comes to mind? Hmm...

I usually just say whatever comes to mind. I read their profiles and if they sound interesting I bring that up. Though, I usually keep it light and simple. One of those things of (taking your profile as example):

Then I just go about my day and wait for them to reply or not to reply lmao Whatever the case may be

It depends on my mood...sometimes I am so into writing, and other times I draw a blank.

Of course it depends on the girl...some women will be creeped out by a long message while others will be flattered that the guy took the time and effort to write something without the words, "sex sex sex"...

I find the long message approach to be more effective, as long as I can get my thoughts out clearly and don't ramble. Women have actually been intrigued enough to check out my profile that way...haven't gotten any results at all with the brief 5-6 word introduction.

That would definitely work on me.
