Well, I work with developmentally disabled adults. It is possible but in my experience I have not seen this happen.

It has happened!!
I was almost 35 when I was last pregnant, and they wanted me to run a battery of tests, saying there could be birth defects, that I may want to abort. I finally had to put it to myself that even if that were the case, God must think I could handle it, so I told them to forget it. She's one fine and crazy kid, but honestly, I can't judge others if they felt the need to choose otherwise.

Some defects can be seen in ultrasounds and tests now and yes there are selfish women who would think about aborting a baby because it wasn't "perfect". Cruel and inhuman, but if they have the child instead of aborting hopefully someone else with a big heart will adopt the child and take care and show what love is really like.

I think they used to have them in a facility but that was before my time. Not sure about the mother's.

i agree. i do hear a lot of stories where mothers abort there baby incase they have the defect, but some dont abort and have a totally normal baby with nothing wrong at all. flowerforyou

I've had a couple of family members have abortions for defects. It normally is a brain developement issue. One of them didn't even develope a functioning brain. It's sad, but it is better for all parties.

I work with clients that are mildly mentally retarded. I take them to the doctors, do recreational activities, help them with whatever they need help with, fill their med boxes, etc.
Basically I helpl them with whatever they need help with.
I love my job. It is very rewarding.flowerforyou

That's one of the reason's I'm against getting rid of abortions, because sometimes its a medical necessity.

yes that is a rewarding job, and not everyone could do it.

No, they work part time, get assistance and have nicer apartments than I do.

when my sister got pregnate with her first kid they tried to run a bunch of tests, to make sure the baby would be a normal kid. and if he wasnt she could abort, or be prepared. the doc was saying that some ppl dont feel up to the task of caring for a baby thats not "normal"

My sister told them to screw off, and that she would take and LOVE her baby no matter what...then she went with a midwife.
