Some people who have posted on this thread seem to be confused about what Socialism is, and what it stands for.
Here's a link describing Socialism: http://www.redletterpress.org/socialism101.html It seems that whenever someone doesn't like ideas that someone else offers that might be different from the status quo, they indiscriminately throw around words like 'socialism' or 'communism'. If they really knew what these movements were, and what they stood for, they would realize that, in using them, they don't even know what they're talking about. Words such as these are often used for shock value, or to prove that theirs is the superior argument. This is known as an ad hominem, or character attack. It is one example of a logical fallacy. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=character-attack While America does have some socialism, such as welfare, we are a long, long, way from becoming a socialist nation. |
