If a guy or gal asked you out, would you expect him/her to pay for
dinner or any other activies that might take place that night? In what
situation would you go dutch or pick up the tab?

i think its important for both parties to pay for their own meal,
ticket etc. everyone likes to get something for free, but not just
everyone is interested in you. from a mans point of view if your date
is not willing to pay for their own part of the date it may be hard to
know if your dates interest goes farther than an evening out free of
charge. sometimes it seems like a date is just an interview for the role
of provider, when personally if i wanted to take care of someone i would
just adopt a kid with down syndrome or something. now that most peoples
salaries are only enough to sustain their own life it is important that
women and men both are willing to prove an actual equality to the other.
paying your own way shows that you are not week or coddled by the people
around you, it is also a good way to show your interest in spending time
with your date and getting to know them better.
strong femenist,
ken

I'd bring my purse along and pay if he didn't offer. If he does,
whatever, I can treat him some time.

hey ruewen.. looks like everyone else here would buy you a meal, so,
just to be different, i tell you what, I'd let you pay for me a meal if
you feel like it :) This offer expires while you wait :)

Thats what you were really wanting to know, isnt it? if you could buy
someone dinner? :)

Well, lets follow the tradition. Its men who take up all the financial
responsibilty? ;) Isn't it? Besides, if they have to make a woman
believe that you are really interested, you have to let her know that
you want to take up all her responsibilites. Men should show they are
dependable, and can provide security plus protection, the essentials a
woman looks for in a man.

oh wow, im going to have to disagree with that one candy.. I don;t
really want to take on anyones complete responsibilites.. good lord, I
have enough of those myself without having someone elses dumped on my
back also.. Alo, I never though paying for dinner could be seen as a
sign of security for the future, but, then again, i am termianlally
single too :)

I pay for my date's dinner, but she has to pay for whatever else we're
doing that night (Usually something -less- expensive, much less),
usually. Only a few times have I not, and that was because they cheated
and got their bills seperate. If the girl wants to pay for her own
dinner that's fine by me, but I am always going to pay for my own. I
prefer to pay for my date, even though recently all I'm getting is
social security, as my job doesn't start for another month. But I'm a
hopeless romanticist so whatever.

Let me tell you a story about I German gal I met in Iran a few years
ago. I asked her out to dinner. She said yes but only if she paid her
share. I said sure. I wanted to get to know her. Later I asked her
why she insisted on paying her share. She said it was because if
anything happened later in the evening it would be because she was
attracted to me and not because she felt obligated because I bought
dinner.

i agree that the guy should definatly pay for the first date.but cmon
candyfloss.it is 2006 and it is not always up to the guy to support you
financialy.do you not no how to be independent.can you not take care of
yourself.if women want to be equal to men(they are)and you want to be
treated as an equal.then guess what.stop depending on someone to support
you.if you do not care if you are looked at as a underdog to a man and
you want to be his slave.then you can live the life of needing
security.you are obviously a golddigger.if money buys you happiness and
not the heart of a man, then you have problems.men and women are equals
and should be.there is nothing wrong with a 50=50 relationship.

Good question. It really depends on both the guy and girl. I've gone out
with a few girls who have insisted on going dutch. It's nice in the
sense that each person is putting forth the exact same amount and effort
into the relationship/date. Good sign. But there are other times when
the men should pay. Not to bring us down guys, but it's the truth.
Having a girl that wants to pay her way is awesome, but treat her on
occasion. My advice, play your cards right, and talk to one another.
Don't assume anything.

Honestly, if the guy makes the effort to pay for me on a first date i
think its really sweet and love it! I think it shows what a gentlemen
he is and that he is generous. If he is looking for me to go half i
would worry about how tight he is with his finances lol.
