I'm trying to quit smoking I've tried Chantix but the side effects weren't the greatest.
Anyone out there have any advice, on anything that might have worked for them?
Thanks

Well I never smoked because I saw how hard it is to quit..(parents and friends)..but the ones that did quit..all did it COLD Turkey..best way to do it..just really like any other addiction..COLD TURKEY!!!
None of that other stuff works..fake nicotein patches, accupuncture, hypnosis..haha all have been tried by fam and friends..
Just sleep alot for about a week..and suck lollipops if u feel u need a cig..thats what u will have to do..replace one bad addiction w/ another..hopefully a good one one..thats why alot of people gain weight when they quit smoking..because they eat more...just find one that does not have that sideeffect..sugarless gum perhaps?

The truth=all them products are crap. The solution is by strong will & determination.Place hard candies & gum everywhere within sight.G'luck!

I used the patch. It wasn't perfect but the cravings were a little less intense, I didn't seem to get them as often, and they didn't last as long as when I tried to quit cold turkey. Good luck it's well worth it. I haven't smoked in 8 years.

The problem with quiting cold turkey is that I don't want to infect my frustration towards other peoplefrown

I used the patch also. The cravings weren't as bad and I've been smoke free for 6 months.
Hard Peppermint candies. I still have bags of them all over the house, in my car, my locker.

Well most people understand that you are feeling a little crappy and pissed off if u tell them that you had not a cigarette in 3 days..and will encourage you to keep going..when u stop u wanna tell as many people as you can for moral support..best thing would be in solitary confinement in the comfort of your own bedroom tho..I would prolly take a few days off from work..especially if u are in customer service;)

I have been smoking for 56 years, have had "Quad- bypass, have COPD and have shaved 15 years off my life.. think about it... YOU CAN QUIT.. first step is the biggest...

Want to..winking
That should have been 56 years...sad

Try eating the cigarette rather than smoking it.. I don't think you will want one again after that

Tomorrow will be 6 weeks smoke free for me. I too tried the chantix but had problems with the side effects and quit them after three weeks.

The only advice i could give you is just make up your mind that no matter what cigs are NOT an option. I keep a bag of tootsie roll pops handy, they seem to help. The cravings are still there but only last a few minutes.

I also think it helped me make up my mind to quit after watching my mother be diagnosed with small cell lung cancer last year which the oncologist said was from smoking and nothing else.

there are web sites out there to help too, becomeanex.com i think is one but there are more too just google quitting smoking.

Good luck and be strong.

I'm thinking about taking a 5day Alaskan cruse or some thing like it to get away from friends, family, and work. But the hole 5days by myself doesnt sound all that appealing.
