and sad. The office where I work is closing and alot of the jobs are being offshored and what not. Tomorrow is the last day for alot of people that I've worked with for 12 years and I'm overwhelmed with sadness. Suggestions for making tomorrow easier or managable?

A few years ago, I went to work one Friday morning and the plant manager told me they were having a layoff and for me to get rid of 10 of my people. I had been there for 14 years and most of those that worked for me had been there for some years also. It was a very tough decision to make as to who to let go, but by day's end, the task was met.

The following Monday when I went in, the plant manager called me to his office and told me "I forgot to tell you - you are part of the layoff also" He had me do the dirty work and then after a horrible weekend thinking about it, put the axe in me mad

That happened to my office. First they closed the office. We either had to work at home, or move to a different office. Then they laid off half our team because of outsourcing.

Then...........last fall the company I was working for, got bought out by a larger firm. While having my morning coffee, about a week or so after the merger, my boss comes in the office and tells me my job is being sent to the NEW home office.

No wonder I had to retire and come live south of the border...... smokin

just because you won't be working with people doesn't mean you still can't stay in touch. Make plans with them to get together in a week or two. Think of it as a new beginning for everyone. Stay positive, be happy for the friendships you've made and celebrate the time you've spent together. flowerforyou

I'm so sorry to hear what is happening at your place of work. Before I left work, there were thousands of employees either being off-shored or out-sourced. What is upsetting is that the feds give companies tax break for off-shoring American jobs. Besides tax breaks, there are other incetives for business, too. Lower costs, no need to provide health insurance, no social security taxes, no unemployment insurance to pay, plus off-shored/out-sourced people are a tax write-off because their expense comes out of accounts payable instead of payroll.

I hope that you will no be affected by this turn of events. It's happening everywhere to more people than one dare imagine.
