TBI
My son, a Gunny in the Marine Corps has just been diagnosed with TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury. It was found on a CT scan after a car accident. He will undergo testing in September. It is something that has recently come to the forefront for he and most likely for many of the other service men from Iraq. It is because he was too close to explosions on the battle field. The helmets offer little protection from these blasts. He has been suffering memory loss and loss of balance for no apparent reasons. The symptoms are very similar to that a boxer, head trauma, etc, would suffer.
Has anyone else heard of this lately? Now my concern will be for my other son, a tow gunner.

As a former Marine this is painful to hear. I have heard of this condition but don't know much about it. Many artillery Marines suffered permanent hearing loss but this is something alltogether different.

My thoughts and best wishes are with your boys.

I have had patients with TBI. He should eventually be receiving PT and OT services.

Haven't heard of it, but I know no one in the military. My prayers to you and your sons. The silver lining, is, I suppose, that he is alive and only has some memory issues and loss of balance. Could have been a million times worse. Prayers and thoughts...flowerforyou

Prayers for your sons and yourself. My ex was in the Marines and suffered hearing loss very badly, without his hearing aids, he cant even hear a door slam anymore.

I hope he recovers quickly and your other son doesnt not suffer the same.flowerforyou
