DO YOU THINK THERE'S A BIG INCREASE IN UNSPORTSMAN-LIKE CONDUCT OR THE MEDIA IS JUST FOCUSING ON THE BAD THINGS?

the Olympics aren't the Olympics any more.it's more of a "lets see who can juice up and win the most medals"kinda thing now and the ones that don't win get all pissy about it.

i'm sorry but they need to take Gymnastics out of the Olympics.all it is is ballet with jumping mixed in.that's not a sport!

instead they should replace it with stock car racing drinker

Have you ever tried gymnastics, or ballet for that matter? Both are very physically demanding, perhaps more so than stock car racing.

How do you define sport?

You serious? gymnastics. I like to see you try the vault, bars, or rings and see what you think then lol. I can't do a cartwheel much less all the **** they do.

I just wish they would do an investigation on the ages of the girls from China. Either find out they are cheating or clear their name.

you can't be serious about it being more physically demanding than stock car racing?.stock car racers drive at speeds between 150-200 mph with no bathroom breaks, very little fluids to keep them replenished and the majority of the time they drive in hot temperatures.

that is ALOT of G-Forces and they have to do it while still trying to keep control of the car.they are on that track for 3-4 hours, not 5 minutes or so like gymnasts!

Its driving a car. lol No athleticism required. Also there are a lot of countries that couldn't afford driving stock cars.

And yes I think its more physically demanding to do gymnastics than it is to drive a stock car.

i happen to love gymnastics and i must say seriously if you dont think its a sport please please go try to do what they do... you can seriously hurt yourself doing it. have you tried uneven bars? where you are jumping high up in the air from bar to bar. or do half the stuff they do?

its very physically demanding on the body and its just as hard as any other olympic sport.

but i agree with you chazster they need to investicate the chinese girls they are obviously not 16...

@Jtevans: Stock Car racing? *LOL*

My friend, Gymnastcs is one of the hardest and physically most demanding sports that exist and you can only do well in Gymnastics when you started out as a little child (e.g. develop the proper joint extensions, to become that flexible and strong...).

(I recommend: watch a few videos about gymnastics on youtube then you'll see what we mean ;-))

Stock Car Racing is probably hard, too but to drive a car is a completely other thing. Every healthy man or woman could do that with little training and practise.

So... because you don't like it, you don't consider it to be a sport?

pretty much

people that don't like stock car racing don't consider it a sport,so why can't i not consider gymnastics a sport?

That reasoning doesn't make sense at all. Just because you don't like a certain sport doesn't mean it's not a sport.. huh.

how the hell do people care about these games like table tennis, hand ball, water polo, curling, where are these games played outside of the olympic games

Chazster's photo
Mon 08/18/08 02:46 PM
No, people that dont like stock car don't necessarily think its not a sport because they don't like it. Some dont think its a sport because of the lack of athleticism that is required.

I saw some clips from the baseball game between US and China where the US was running into the catchers and everything. IDK if it's about more unsportsman like conduct, or just that it's the Olympics and it shouldn't be happening since it's on the world stage. It just looks really bad. :P

I don't know what clips you are talking about, but the catcher shouldn't be blocking the baseline. If he is and he is run over its his fault. If he wasn't and we ran him over anyway, then its unsportsmanlike.
