A Biblical Seven Years
By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN Excerpt: "As I sat in my seat at the Bird’s Nest, watching thousands of Chinese dancers, drummers, singers and acrobats on stilts perform their magic at the closing ceremony, I couldn’t help but reflect on how China and America have spent the last seven years: China has been preparing for the Olympics; we’ve been preparing for Al Qaeda. They’ve been building better stadiums, subways, airports, roads and parks. And we’ve been building better metal detectors, armored Humvees and pilotless drones." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/27/opinion/27friedman.html?em |

The Chinese government as a whole is not stupid. They've been able to observe the successes and failures of every nation on earth while keeping their population cut off from the world. We are, as is every other nation, a lab experiment who's lessons can be studied and adapted by the Chinese.
China began to build in recent years roadways that modeled our interstate highway system. Many U.S. citizens take our interstates for granted but in truth they are fairly recent and have greatly contributed to our prosperity. China looked to that U.S. success and has begun to copy it. Don't congratulate China or overlook it please. Anyone who dismisses China I think does so at their peril. The right has talked out of both sides of their mouth on and to China. Ride the wave all the way to the bank...there is no allegiance to kith and kin or to this country there there is only allegiance to money the parties elite make on both sides of the isle. (Still the Bush administration has been at the wheel for nearly eight years so I will place the blame for our relationship with China on them.) Please stop and look at what we owe China now. It scares me(see Debt & China) not so much for me but for my children and grandchildren. Look at Bush in sitting happily in China at the Olympics. It makes me feel like throwing-up. Richard Nixon, (damn, now I am going to say something nice about Nixon) opened the door to China. He understood the countries potential power and provided us an opening. We've fumbled the ball. Now look at where we are in terms of debt. Who owns the notes? We owe them, the Chinese. Funny isn't it how things change? Do you think Nixon saw this coming? I bet not haha Someone told me long ago when questioning anyone's actions to look at who benefits and who loses. Then step back and look again. Follow the money...haha |
