Chances (Like Sand)

I saw the eyes of an angel
And read from her heart,
Touched her dear soul
At an old coffee shop.

She was beautiful to me.

Dark matted hair
And hazel gray eyes,
A thin bow of smile
As we talked about life.

She was more...
Than she seemed to be.

It seems she once had a life
Full of flowers and dreams,
She fell from her grace
When she entered her teens
And then she paused a while...

She lost her smile.

She said chances come round
Sometimes only once,
You better grab them while you can...
And if you don't.
They'll fall through your life.

Like sand.

I felt her tears fall
As they washed down her face,
She apologized softly
And then turned away...

My heart broke in two,
What was I to do?

I tried to give comfort
The best that I could
I held her head softly
I didn't know if I should...

I told her she was beautiful to me.

When it came time to part
She smiled out a thanks,
Embraced me and laughed
And went on her way.

I was intrigued.
To say the least.

She said chances come round

They'll fall through your life.

Like sand.

I once had a chance
To love an angel in life,
To love her forever
And make her my wife.

I had other things to do...

I once had the chance
To change what I am,
To better myself
And make better friends.

I had better things to do...

Then I remembered...
The day my heart broke in two.
