The House of Representatives killed the $700 billion bail out of our nation's financial system today. The majority who voted against this plan, both democrat and republican, were those slated for re-election. They had apparently received enough feedback from their constituency to feel that their re-election would be at jeopardy if they chose to support this plan. A large number of our fellow citizens are adamently opposed to bailing out financial institutions which are failing because of their own poor decisions and unwise business practices. Many American tax payers felt, "No! I may have to pay for the mistakes of my leaders, but I am not paying for the mistakes made by these institutions.", and shared those feelings with their representatives.

Any chance that the events of today may finally encourage the eligible, but non-voting citizens of this country to step up, accept the responsibility and use the power of their own vote?

Did you hear the breakdown of the votes? The esteemed leaders that were having to fight a tough election this year voted no and the politicians that were not in a tight fight voted yes...

NPR was talking about this...

It's a tough sell to people that understand the issue, much less to the general public that simply sees it as bailing out big business. It's too complex to even guarantee that it will even begin to fix the problem. But if something isn't done quickly, we can pretty much guarantee that things will get very bad.

Oh, I have no doubt that we who represent 'the curb' in this country are in for a very difficult time.

The point I was making was that, at least in an election year...our voices apparently do count. The vote today proves that.

My hope is that it will prove the same to the doubting eligible voters out there...and encourage them to use the power they have been given. the power to vote.

True. Which begs the question....What are these people doing the other 90% of the time when they're not running for re-election?
