How many of you actually know how Obama plans to pay for education...?

You all should know. He said it on national news.

One thing that amazed me was the news service picked up on his 'spread the wealth slip' but not on this one...

And it is potentially more damageing then the 'spread the wealth' cause it could cause him to lose the greatest part of his common base. Most of them (if they heard what he said) would string him up themselves.

It would put them backwards not forwards.

Obama: cut Constellation to pay for education

November 20, 2007 at 2:06 pm · Filed under Campaign '08

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama released today the education plan he would enact if elected. The full 15-page plan includes a variety of proposals, including reforming early education programs. The last section of the plan, titled “A Commitment to Fiscal Responsibility” explains how he would pay for these initiatives. The passage of relevance here: “The early education plan will be paid for by delaying the NASA Constellation Program for five years,” among other steps. According to MSNBC, Obama would leave in place $500 million/year for Constellation’s “manufacturing and technology base”, but would otherwise transfer the funding to the education effort. None of the campaign’s official statements or other media reports indicate any alternative measures the campaign would take to address what, on its face, would appear to be a five-year delay in the introduction of Ares 1, Orion, and the other main components of NASA’s current exploration architecture.

(A potentially ironic item, depending on your opinion on the importance of Constellation: one other section of the Obama education plan is titled “Make Math and Science Education a National Priority”.)

The Republican National Committee has criticized the move to delay Constellation, The Hill reports, quoting RNC spokesman Danny Diaz: “It is ironic that Barack Obama’s plan to help our children reach for the stars is financed in part by slashing a program that helps us learn about those very same stars.”

Obama Slips Merit Pay Into Larger Plan on Schools
By David J. Hoff

Sen. Barack Obama wants to start a new program supporting an innovative-schools fund that his campaign says would allow districts to create “portfolios” of schools modeled after existing success stories.

The proposal, released in a summary Sept. 9 when the Democratic presidential nominee gave a speech on education in Riverside, Ohio, sounds similar to a bill he has introduced twice since entering the U.S. Senate in 2005.

But the Obama campaign’s summary omits one detail of the legislative plan: The bill would require participating districts to experiment with linking teacher pay...

Aw c'mon...

It is much more simple than that.

Indentured servitude...

He said that students would pay for their education by working it off in the local community. (i.e. community service)

what would you call this...

well it depends on how it is administered

if they have choices of what service they will perform

it is a the same as a job (indentured servitude that most adhere to)

if it is mandatory then something to be concerned about

if voluntary it may be the only way many will be able to afford to go

this is like say those that join the military for the gi benefits are in turn indentured servants

when in actuality anyone that works for pay are somewhat

they just use there money to pay for gas oil utilities shelter and so on (what is the dif)

do you really think that under the current focus of politics...

Any such system will be fair?
Someone once told me that the pendulum allways swings as far to one side as it went to the other.

and you are still at your age thinking life is fair

nothing in this world is fair

if it was no one would be hungry

no one would be sick

no one would be starting wars

no one would be in jail

shall i go on

Yes at my age...

I am willing to make it fair.

Or at least give my life trying.

I am infected with a sense of glory. (not for myself but for the human race).

We are, after all the stuff of god. Perhaps someday we will grow into our full potential.

What students? Anyone that goes to school, or just people that take from this education fund? What would be the difference from just getting a job to pay for school?

that is what I did... I chose to get a job... I did not have it chosen for me...

I also studied what I wanted... Not what I had to just for the education... Which is where IMHO this is headed. What the gov needs it gets. what the gov does not need won't get taught. Gov should never control education.

Well thanks:smile:

Just one thing... I am far from a righter. I got a lot of lefty in there also.

Some things in life call for the righty approach. Somethings NEED a more liberal lefty push.

the trick is knowing which time in our existance calls for what?

If I was better at it...?
