Following the failed Beer Hall Putsch, Adolf Hitler went into hiding. However, he was arrested on November 11, 1923, was remanded and, after a 24-day trial, found guilty of high treason and sentenced to five years' imprisonment. Presiding Judge Neithhardt was convinced that Hitler and the other members of the Kampfbund had acted honourably, and Hitler was therefore eligible for parole in nine months and also to be given the privilege of Festungshaft (imprisonment without penal labor). This permitted Hitler a steady flow of visitors and a desk in his cell.

Hitler was allocated Cell No. 9 of the Landsberg Prison fortress. A subsequent trial pertaining to the putsch saw Hitler's chauffeur Emil Maurice and close associate Rudolf Hess imprisoned for five years, though they too would be eligible for release in nine months. During this time in prison, Hitler underwent something of an epiphany with regard to his use of violence: from now on everything was to be ostensibly legal.

One can draw comparisons.

Hitler saw the Jews as a threat to the fatherland. Bush saw the Iraqis as a threat to the motherland.

I don't see how you arrive at the word "Iraqis", sounds like a Freudian slip to me, but oh well.

Saddam was an Iraqi, yes, not all 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' [as viewed by Bushco] are.

Shock and awe, technically known as rapid dominance, is a military doctrine based on the use of overwhelming power, dominant battlefield awareness, dominant maneuvers, and spectacular displays of force to paralyze an adversary's perception of the battlefield and destroy its will to fight.

Blitzkrieg (‘ the lightning war ’ in German; listen (help · info)) is a popular name for an offensive operational-level military doctrine which involves an initial bombardment followed by the employment of motorized mobile forces attacking with speed and surprise to prevent an enemy from implementing a coherent defense.

Really? It was proposed and pushed for my Democrats. laugh I guess they should all salute Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid as their fuhrers, right?

I just cant believe our elected leaders are so dumb or the american people. Its fairly predictable that when you go around kicking bee hives that your going to piss off alot of bee's. So we invade Iraq on a never ending list of reasons from WMDS to "Iraqi Freedom" Why are we suprised when these people revolt? It has played nicely into the war merchants profits to remain in a constant state of warfare.

speaking of getting your foot stuck in your mouth. Just six weeks after the September 11 attacks, a panicked Congress passed the "USA/Patriot Act," an overnight revision of the nation's surveillance laws that vastly expanded the government's authority to spy on its own citizens, while simultaneously reducing checks and balances on those powers like judicial oversight, public accountability, and the ability to challenge government searches in court.

Now you are mixing up the Patriot act with the Department of Homeland Security? You should slow down a bit until you actually understand the basic concepts of what you are always complaining about. "Facts? Why should I let those get in my way!" laugh

Congress passed it? Not president Bush, but the democratically elected representatives of the American people? In what way is that like the Nazis?

Do you know what the RICO act is? The Patriot Act gives law enforcement the same powers to fight terrorism that they have for fighting organized crime.

Do you believe that the RICO act should be repealed?

It was passed with fear in a climate of fear not discussion or debate. the fear from 911 and the anthrax letters. Sure it was voted on in the climate of your with us or against us. 911 was used and abused to manipulate. Right out of the Nazi playbook.

Bush can't propose law, only Congress can do that. So Congress proposed and Congress passed the legislature. Plus, the ACLU isn't exactly an unbiased source.

So tell me a couple specific examples of what about the Patriot act you don't like. Have you read the Patriot Act? How long from the time the Act was proposed until it was voted on?

I am not your secretary nor am i going to fetch the date you demand. It was 340 pages long and it was proposed under the threat' that more terrorist attacks are forth comeing" You and I both know these are Nazi tactics and that is my point. It took five weeks after 911 to trash our first ten amendments if you care to look it up and detail it feel free to do so. I do not think my trouble would be rewarded with a "gee thanks for clearing that up for me"laugh

Ok I couldnt resist. When the legislative proposals were introduced by the Bush administration in the aftermath of September 11th, Attorney General John Ashcroft gave Congress one week in which to pass the bill -- without changes. Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, managed to convince the Justice Department to agree to some changes, and members of the House began to make significant improvements. However, the Attorney General warned that further terrorist acts were imminent, and that Congress could be to blame for such attacks if it failed to pass the bill immediately.

So what have we learned?

1) You have never read, nor do you intend to read the Patriot act.

2) You don't seem to oppose RICO, but for some reason you oppose the same regulations when applied to fighting terrorism.

3) You are willing to claim that Congress didn't have time to read the act before voting, but you don't know how long they had to read the Patiot Act.

4) You are aware of no specific disagreements with the Patriot act, you are simply parroting what others have said.

Ok your being moronic its ok with me if you declare victory and move on. My point has been and the title of this thread is compareing Bush to hitler and I have said the patriot act was rammed through under a climate of fear and intimidation this has been proven see post above. the thread isnt about what I read or what you think I should read. Ashcrot said " if it doesnt pass we we are attacked again it will be the fault of congress" That is intimidation. and if you see your point three you are wrong as I stated it took five weeks to pass either you failed to read what I wrote or understand what I wrote your your just a liar

So Congressmen couldn't read 340 pages in five weeks, even though that is what we are paying them to do? You are right! That's completely John Ashcroft and Bush's faults! Attica! Attica! Attica!

laugh

Five weeks to read 340 pages...which is their job to do anyways and you blame Bush?

five weeks of an ever changeing document along with all the other issues of the day, five weeks is incredibly fast by washington standerds. and again a friendly reminder it was pushed through under the threat of ( if this doesnt pass and we are attacked again it will be the fault of congress) Odd isnt it they had all these "patriot laws" all ready in five weeks? they wrote the laws prior to 911 and used it as an excuse to pass it. so so much like something the nazis would do.
