What most americans dont realize is that the average american is going backwards economicly. If the minimum wage had kept up with inflation from the time of its conception in 1938 it would be around 9 bucks an hour. I am curiouse how many of you make at least 9 bucks an hour in your chosen profession?

Its realy sad that the average wage is the "real minimum wage" In 1965, CEOs in major companies made 24 times more than the average worker. In 2003, CEOs earned 185 times more than the average worker

whats worse is a state that has an income of over 9 Billion dollars off of lottery sales....(yes this goes into the general fund, but was earmarked for schools and roads...)
has the lowest paid teachers and the worst roads in the country.
and certain groups try to get rid of it every year.....where do think this money will come from once gone???

Oh, and I make more than $9 an hour, but I've work for my agency for 25 years. We don't get cost of living or merit raises, so comparatively, I make about 12% less than my public sector counterpart. Public service does not pay!noway

I think all lottery books should be made public and shown where that money really goes. It was sold to states as a way to help fund the schools..SHOW IT! Seems local taxes going up with schools cutting programs.?????????? Where is it? I make above wages in the State of Florida where wages are below National averge..

I think the "national average" is skewed because I sure know a lot of people that make below it! huh

We can combat inflation by not printing more money. Not many seem to hear any politician that wants to make that possible.

when I first started getting sick I was on monthly salary. The they switched it to an hourly equivalent since I couldn't do 40 hours anymore. That was $34 an hour

pretty cool of them actually, as I got sicker they made enourmous allowances for me until I just couldn't do it

$9 still sounds meager for a minimum wage

Unfortunately adjusting minimum wage is not the answer either. It merely raises the cost of living when you break it down. We seriously need to cut half our government programs and stop starting wars with the world...

I make just over 9 but it's not my chosen profession & I have to drive 60 miles a day to get a job that pays that.

Iam curiouse catty is that 45 an hour your hourly base? I make a humble 21.85 an hour but my company says they pay me 57.00 an hour and some change factoring in my retirenment and insurance benefits. I have to speculate that if that is your base its no wonder the cost of medical care is so expensive. I would also speculate that if 2 or 3 million americans lose their health insurance due to the failure of the big three it would massivly increase the un- insured, probably more than that when you factor in dependants and retirees. How long would it take in a depessed economy b4 they came after your pay with the mantra of bed pan changers dont deserve 45 an hour? Its my humble opinion that the middle class is being disasembled one sector at a time and the auto workers are just the latest victim.

hmmm...im specialized. Like i said i work between 2 major hospitals in a resource pool. at least 30 floors, so i fill in holes.

IF..IF i was a staff nurse somewhere...id be making like 25 bucks an hour.

BUT, this "bedchanger" "drug pusher" bedside RN...whatever you want to call me...is flexible and worked hard to get a diverse medical background to enable me to get this job because i get paid better to be resources instead of staff..

experience does matter..I am well paid because I have a very strong medical background. and I dont mind working on different floors every time I go to work.

make any sense??

ya Im sure..someday somebody will come along and try to decrease how much money is made by us little people in the medical field.

but hey we are not union.
and where I work pensions have been gone for years.
and our medical plan SUCKS bad...especially compared to union workers...

that is what i make. no benefits. and working night shift and mostly weekend shifts. (shift diff) and no 'regular' floor that i go to everyday. (no comfort factor in that)

obviously when you factor this in autoworkers are making more than me. they got a retirement plan/medicals...etc..

which doesnt matter..but madman did point out he makes 57 dollars an hour without even taking out loans and spending 4 years in college...and he gets to work dayshift and weekends off.

im just saying

if i choose to be a benefited employee...not only would i be paying the high cost of insurance..i would take a $5/hr paycut
