Here we go again another season and a fresh bunch of folks saying there's a war on Christmas. Guess it plays well and gets press...so it must be true right?

Is a retailer saying Happy Holidays a war on Christmas? Or is it simply showing respect for others beliefs? What about saying Merry Christmas to people who are not Christians? Is that a war on Hanukkah?

This guy seems to have it all figured out.

Utah lawmaker proposes resolution to embrace Christmas
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - State Sen. Chris Buttars is sponsoring a resolution asking the Legislature to declare its opposition to what he calls the war on Christmas.

Buttars, R-West Jordan, wants retailers to embrace Christmas in their promotions, saying the United States is a Christian nation and ought to use the holiday's name.

Buttars says several fellow lawmakers support his effort, though he wouldn't name them.

The resolution is still being drafted.

One local advertising executive, Dave Newbold, says no one should force their beliefs on others. And Jim Olsen, president of the Utah Retail Merchants Association, says it would be difficult for retailers to stick to using just Christmas if they are part of national promotions that don't use the name of the holiday.

Whenever I here anything in the "news" anymore. If I am interested in it at all, I apply the "why factor" to the story. That is why the story is being told in the news to begin with, it is usually to sell advertising...make money!

Or an attempt to impose ones religious standards on others.

But I suppose there's a couple of bucks in that too.

Well, I do see a number of my fellow atheists get up and arms about any perceived religious activities that intrude on any public life and get offended. I do see this as a minority of the minority. However the folks who get really upset are followers of either some other religion, or Christians themselves that want the holiday to help promote there religion exclusively.

The funny thing about Christmas, was that it was originally a pagan holiday, the whole Christmas tree deal was not started by Christianity and cant really be taken as a christian holiday exclusively.

Christ was not even born on Christmas . . . pretty weak arguments that this is a Christian Holiday.

I think most of those who complain about how Christmas offends them just want attention. The media sure seems to latch onto it too. They blow it all out of proportion and since so many believe everything the media says they actually start believing others are taking away their lights and trees and telling them they can't say Merry Christmas anymore.

In what way is Christmas a Christian holiday?

Christians worship god... At least I think they do.

The practice of Christmas is the worship of the green tree...

How is that Christian?

Anyone who bothers to know history knows the true origins of the Christmas season and the tree. They also know how the early church adopted pagan holidays periods.

Many people who do also view these war on Christmas stories as what they are, ridiculous attempts to enforce the us and them think by some who want their 15 minutes of fame railing about how people hate God and his chosen people, right wing Christian extremists. Of course this sort of thinking plays well to the sheep and helps to keep the sheep coming back to the church.

Aye with a tree in the living room, tinsel and gold, children all gathered around (cause they know that the dude in the red suit put something under that tree for them)...

How many times does each of you kneel near the tree?

Worship may be present even if you know it not.

Aye... Keeps the sheep coming back to the store... Money in hand to buy the trappings they have been told are necessary for the season... Merchants have a vested interest in holidays being accepted by as many people as possible...

I have no problem with "Happy Holidays". I kind of like it.

It encompasses the whole holiday season - Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve.

Happy Holidays says it all.happy

And...I like the holiday season.

Happy Festivus to the Rest of Us!!!

One aspect of the season I really enjoy is giving presents to people. I keep an eye out year round for stuff that friends and family might enjoy. Nothing beats the fun of giving.

Being with family for a huge day long meal is great as well. No Christmas season would be complete without a family meal where someone drops the rolls or forgets them in the oven. Rolls seem to be quite challenging to us as a group.

We will get together to eat family dishes that have been shared for many generations here at my house. My house is the sort of Switzerland of family relations, neutral. No bickering allowed everyone is expected to lay down conflicts and appreciate our shared history. I invite friends and family even my ex-in-laws who come every year. I suspect for the strudel and Swedish ham but maybe it is the company.

We keep Christmas in our own way.

It's a grand time.

The whole evergreen tree thing was started by a missionary in Germany to convert the pagans.look it up.Christmas to me is a time of reflection, good food and family and the fellowship of midnite mass.
Anal retentiveness is a national epidemic in this country. There must be a vaccine developed!!
