Familiarize Yourself

It's that time of year again
Where we gather around the fireplace,
Drinking cocoa and singing carols
While we warm our face.
Spending time with family and friends
With decorations on the shelf,
It's time for the season
When you should familiarize yourself.

Whatever happened to family values
Where gifts came from the heart?
Where money didn't seem to matter
And didn't take much smarts.
It could be something baked sweet
Or something hand sewn,
Something that was carved from wood
That made a soft pleasant tone.

Yes, we're supposed to celebrate
The season of Jesus' birth,
Where we gather with our families
Singing with joyful mirth.
Don't make commercialism rule
The way you share with your heart,
Familiarize yourself with true spirit
Don't distance yourself, too far apart.

Oh, now you gone and done it you made me cry.
