Opportunities for Peace and Nonintervention
by Ron Paul

Last week I discussed our worsening economic situation and the fact that there are very few options for the new administration to improve things in the long run. The same is not true on the foreign policy front. Our interventionist foreign policy stands ready to be put on a new course with the new administration. Unfortunately, it seems the new administration is likely to continue the mistakes of the past. I've often discussed interventionist foreign policy and the resulting blowback. The current administration's foreign policy, I'm afraid, has created a huge impetus for blowback against the United States. However, I truly believe much of the world stands ready to look beyond our nation's recent blunders if the new administration proves to be heading in a more reasonable direction.

Other nations around the world find our interference in their affairs condescending, and it is very dangerous for us. We may think we have much to gain by inserting ourselves in these complex situations, but on the contrary we suffer from many consequences. Other countries have their problems, to be sure. But how would we feel if China or Russia came to our soil and tried to depose our problematic leaders or correct our policies for us? Our problems are ours to solve, and we need to give other countries that respect as well. Instead, we have been turning alleged, phantom threats into real, actual threats.

We should follow the foreign policy advice of the Founders – friendship and commerce with all nations. One positive step would be to end our destructive embargo of Cuba, which deprives our farmers of a market just 90 miles from US shores while strengthening the Communist regime. We've seen 50 years of statist restrictions not accomplish anything. A change is needed. Other countries should decide how to govern themselves. Even if we don't necessarily approve, it's none of our business. If other people foolishly choose to live under statist experimental regimes, they need to fail in their own right, and not have us as a scapegoat. We need to focus on our own affairs.

However, the pressures exerted on our leadership from the military industrial complex and big business is not in favor of peace or freedom, or especially nonintervention. Intervention is big business. Defense contracts topped $300 billion last year, and total spending on war and our overseas empire is up to $1 trillion per year. That represents a lot of people earning a living off of war and conquest. But rather than adding to our economy, all of this money is taken from the economy in order to wage war and destruction. Imagine if those resources were put to creative, productive use here at home!

We need to rein in our overseas empire, as quickly as possible. We need to bring our troops home, and get our economy back into the business of production, not destruction. The smartest thing we could do is admit we don't know all the answers to all the world's problems. If the new administration can take a closer look at real free trade and no entangling alliances, we would be much better off for it. Economically – we could save hundreds of billions of dollars each year! The new leadership has the opportunity and the political capital to do this. But unfortunately, it is not likely to happen.

First of all everybody was so hot for change they voted for a liar. Meet the New Boss, same as the Old Boss!

Now as far as our interventionist policies, Thank the UN for that as well as Big Business and our CONGRESS who sold us out! America has been used as the police force of the world but then again look at internal politics.

Russia sends a warship, actually a destroyer, to Venezuela and our media freaks out. it goes to Cuba and they freak out more. Why can't Russia do some of the work policing the world? Because it threatens American Superiority? First of all our Media has its collective head up its collective ass. They sell fear, not news.

NEXT! With groups like the Taliban and Al Queda who, let me remind all of you once more, have declared Jihad or Holy War against us and made damn good on their threats. Blowing them kisses and negotiating with them will only prolong the problem and empower them. They need to be attacked an killed at every turn or they WILL kill us! If they hide in Pakistan we need to cross their boarder and get the bastards. If Pakistan is playing host indirectly to our enemies then they need to either show some results or let us take care of business.

bear in mind that our enemies can get their hands on Nukes if we are not vigilant. if we do not act preemptively a mushroom cloud or two will rise above our cities. The Bombs will not come from North Korea or Russia. A lot can be said about both nations but Russia knows better and N Korea knows if we got nuked and traced the bomb from their country we would nuke them until South Korea was an island!
A nuke used on us by Terrorists will come from Pakistan or Iran.

Blame the UN if you have to blame anyone. They are an ineffectual debate society that makes the US do all of their dirty work. Our Foreign policy is colored by their desires. Maybe we should cut off ALL foreign Aid and use the money to clean up our act first.

What about our government selling out our industry to China? What about Foreign intervention in our politics and policies? Face it, we need to stick our noses into other peoples (country's) business to protect ourselves on a number of levels. Our government is in need of serious reform. Big Business has infiltrated our government and is twisting us into a machination of global control rather than leading the world by example like we used to. Americans are being deceived into letting the government control our lives when we should be in control of the government.

Bear in mind, peace for the sake of peace is suicide.
War for the sake of peace is Deterrent force!
War for the sake of economic gain is criminal.
People need to buck up and accept personal accountability instead of whine about what we are doing around the world.
At least we are not pulling what China has been and look at what it got them! They became so image conscious they began to show their true colors.
I see so many intellectual reasons what this country is so messed up and yet I do not see any one trying to fix this mess. Intellectuals give me gas! All they do is talk!

The big picture intervention is necessary! Everyone keeps crying about what Mugabe is doing to Zimbabwe. Everyone keeps crying about the evil he is doing yet the UN wants to slap the back of his hand when they need to send in troops and take his ass out of the picture. The reality of it is we need to let that country burn! We need to on the other hand go in and MOP Iran's ass off of the planet. They also have a holy war declared against us. think they really want peace with us? The Iranian people might but their Theocratic governemnt sure doesn't.

American Foreign policy is too wishy washy and confused.

Factoid, the death toll of 9-11 was greater than the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor.
Next: Unlike Pearl Harbor the attackers were a fringe group of religious lunatics where Pearl Harbor was a Military Attack on Military Targets.
Next: Unlike Pearl Harbor where Japan attacked killed Military personnel 9-11 was an attack on Civilian targets and all of the casualties were civilian.
Next: Hostile governments lend aid and support to these groups and they themselves are part of the problem and accomplices in the act!

So what do we do?
Overlook the loss of American lives to 9-11?
Blow kisses to Iran?
Act like the Taliban are misunderstood?
They oppose every aspect of our lives!

Hell, look at the mess in Gaza!
We keep trying to help them find a peaceful solution to the problem and Hamas keeps attacking Israel and pissing them off. I hope Israel wipes them out this time! If a neighbor cannot live in peace with us we need to wipe them out! If they hide in another country we need to go in and get them if that country does not want to hep us stop them. If that country gets in our way we need to CRUSH them like the world power we are! PAKISTAN is being a troublemaker and the media here plays like they are so misunderstood! The only thing they understand is superior fire power!

America does need reform but it has to be thought out. our founding fathers did not face the issues we face today. The play field is not level and we need to do a lot to straighten the messing this country out like breaking the power of the unions, eliminating deregulation and privatization, business needs to be driven out of government, the two party system needs to be destroyed, and more personal accountability needs to be levied on our public officials!

Harumpf!

Obama, Bush, McCain, Clinton, Bush the Older, Cheney... all birds of a feather.

American politicians set our foriegn policy, not the UN and it's not the UN greasing their wallets to push for interventionist policies, it's the Military Industrial Complex, some of the same companies that make our bombs also own chunks of our media, so we can't count on them to spit out objective news.

The reason why the media freaks out, and they should, about Russian military manuevers is because it's a direct response to NATO, meaning the US, encroaching a missle system closer and closer to Russia's border.

Al CIAda can't hurt us unless we are in their backyard or if we leave the door wide open...or they're taking part in some state sponsored terror.

I stand a much stronger chance of getting struck by lightning or winning the lottery than I do of being harmed by terrorism.

Our enemies have already had Nukes. We stood nose to nose with the aforementioned Russia, who had more than enough Nukes to turn North America into a glow in the dark wasteland. Granted it was mutually assured destruction, but lets be real, no cave dwelling CIA asset is getting Radioactive material into this country without inside job complicity.

As for Pakistan, put yourself in the shoes of a Pakistani. We've got gangs, who I'm sure have attacked foriegners, does this doctrine of get the terrorists no matter what not mean that every other Nation can then take the same stance with us?

We have some NeoNazi's that want to see the end of Israel, does that mean Israel gets to preemptively strike Scranton?

I don't blame the UN, granted the United AbomiNations has a entire host of horrendous crap that is on their shoulders, but UN involvement is voluntary and against what the founders wanted for us. They warned us this is what would happen if we jumped into entangling alliances, they warned us what would happen if we got into interventionist foriegn policies and they warned us what would happen if we gave control of our currency to a central bank.

What our founders faced and what we face is only a difference in technology, Tyranny is tyranny, no matter what the date on the calender.
