Topic: Great Wall of Texas

What about importing a couple hundred thousand Chinese immigrants to
build a wall along the southern Texas border next to Mexico. Let them
work at a low pay rate but give them some citizenship opportunities,
green card or such in exchange for their effort, maybe after a couple
years work in the area.

Spend some federal money to develop the area and make it a new economic
development center. Maybe include some tax free trade benefits for the
area to kick off the development.

We could get a pretty good wall built there with all that experienced
work force, and they could help keep the illegal immigrants at bay some
just by their presence.

Yes I am polishing up my irony here. What do you think?

Have them put up a railroad while they're at it....

That wall will never be built. not along the entire border. Too many
Ranchers need the river for their livestock. In and near Cities and
towns, yes, probably. If the border patrol would do their job and ppl
would quit giving them work and lodging you wouldnt need a fence,
Period.

His entire post was basically to be ironic (which, in this case, also
means insulting). He said so himself. Why are you bothering to treat it
seriously?

Why do you care?

For the same reason you do, obviously.

Oh. Makes sence. Good thing this isn't a serious conversation. Makes
meaningless tangents slightly more important than the original
conversation.

Hey doc!
Why do you think the Monroe Doctrine never realized the light of day?

Wall like that didn't protect china.

Problem with a wall is it limits your ability to be mobil. If you put a
wall North and South they will come in East and West.

Just build a different kind of wall.

put a Wall-mart in Mexico City.

The irony in this post, in case you missed it, is using Chinese to keep
out Mexicans.

Now personally I have pretty high regards for the people of both
countries. The Chinese are very industrious and largely intelligent. The
Mexicans I know are hard working and family oriented.

I don't know whether there would be war between the two groups or what
if they were put in close proximity, but I expect they might develop
some friendships.

A nice public works project down there could do a lot to develop the
area. If we can outsource to the Chinese we could probably get the job
done much cheaper. A great wall like the one in China might be fun to
walk along in the evening and look over the border into the other
country. It could be a nice landmark to talk about for a few centuries.
As for keeping out any migrant workers, I think it would be ineffective,
but at least we would get it done cheaper and develop the area.

I might mention that making some friends from China might be a good
thing for our country. We will have an ongoing struggle with that
country. Some cultural exchange will likely benefit us in the long run.

nusalor- is this a topic which you feel did not succeed?

main points of the monroe doctrine;

the Monroe Doctrine states three major ideas, with one more added by
President Theodore Roosevelt. First, it conveys that European countries
cannot colonize in any of the Americas: North, Central, or South. One of
the closest that any recent memory provides for in our history is when
russia helped cuba, but they had no intent on colonizing. Second, it
enforces George Washington's rule of foreign policy, in which the U.S.
will only be involved in European affairs if America's rights are
disturbed. Primary example is WWI and WWII. Third, the U.S. will
consider any attempt at colonization a threat to its national security.
Now remember that this doctrine was in 1822 or 23 and the french were
already in cananad, and the spanish were already in mexico, so going to
war with those two countries wouldnt be very prudent, and it would go
against the doctrine that basically stated any further colonizations.
Theodore Roosevelt added to the doctrine, and summed up his additions
with the statement, "Speak softly and carry a big stick". And baby we've
been carying a mighty big stick for about 100 years.

or are you being facisicious? saying that the US has been colonized in
itself by foriegn countries already that we felled to keep out? in which
case i would think you were talking about other ethnics groups with in
our borders, which kinda borders on racism and a pratice that i do not
wish to be a part of.

The wall is being built to make it look like they are doing something
about the problem when in reality they aren't.
